Re:"04 ORDER DATE?
I will be unpleasantly surprised if the 04' has EGR plumbing. I expressly ordered the 04' very early hoping to avoid it. I am not as familiar with the Cummins as I am with the Powerstroke so will take your advice. By the way, what I meant by feeling the EGR and knowing is that it'll probably run like . . . . . . :P

According to this site http://wwwsg.daimlerchrysler.com/SD7...43987,00.html? when you read the specifications for the 2500/3500 the horsepower and torque for 2004 is the same as last year.

Scotty are you sure it is on the train?
Mine is being built in Saltillo and according to Dodge mine will be trucked to Larado, TX and put on the train to Council Bluffs, Iowa. Then it will be trucked to Sioux Falls, SD to the dealer. He gave me a train code of XTFM, I think it is Burlington. They don't allow tracking at their website.

Re:"04 ORDER DATE?
Finally got a UP tracking confirmation this evening. Truck was on the UP carrier from Laredo yesterday and it's due in here by 8/15. UP line runs through Lordsburg. From I10, I see those car/truck rail cars passing through all the time and never paid no mind. Until now.

Does anyone have a definite reference to an emissions law changes for 04? I know 06 and 07 do.

http://www.epa.gov/otaq/retrofit/2004.htm gives a discription of the new standards, and even the technology (yes the EPA has their hand in approving technology as well :P).
In a nutshell, Cummins can't meet the new NOx spec without EGR
http://www.epa.gov/otaq/retrofit/overoh-all.htm shows the emmisions timeline and the sharp reduction in Nox for 2004

Doug, thanks for the info, and thats too bad. Biodiesel reduces all emissions except NOX, so unfortunately, you wont be able to just throw a few gallons in and pass.
For the record, 100% biodiesel only increases NOX like 8%. Normal blends of 20% biodiesel only increase it like 1-2% but overall emissions are reduced 60%.

Re:"04 ORDER DATE?
we should pause here to make the distinction between emmisions standards imposed on DC for trucks sold after certain dates, and the standards by which your truck is measured every year (in some locales) which is tied to the vehicle registration.
for example, today in Boise, ID all they do is measure particulate contamination (opacity) in %, and the the 2002 standard can be met with early 1980s diesels
