$1.69-$1.85 here in Florida, I've seen as high as $2.05 at one 'rape shop'. Right across the street from there, $1.82.
Yes you are right, but think about it this way. You buy a 20 oz. bottle of soda for $2. You sell the soda for 20 cents per ounce. Then you realize you neighbor realy needs the empty bottles, so you sell them to him 50 cents each. As long as somebody needs it, and they can make money off of it, they will see what they can get for it.

2.35 this morning for me. It was the same price as premium. I've seen a couple of places where it's a few pennies more than premium. This is my first diesel and I was told that never happens.

Boy, did I pick the wrong time to buy a "600"!!
I just saw a sign at a local station while I was at lunch today:
$1.99 - Diesel
$1.89 - 87
$1.99 - 89
$2.09 - 91
That's 10¢ higher than last week!

Diesel not a waste product of gasoline production (gather all 'round the table for the story of crude refinement.) Propane, Gasoline, Kerosene, Diesel, Jet Fuel, lubricating oils and asphault all come from the same crude oil, and are all chemically similar. Crude oil consists of waste such as sulfur and lead, and what we use, called hydrocarbons. Hydrocarbons are chains of carbon surrounded by hydrogen, and come in various lengths. The shortest ones are gases, and are what we know as methane, ethane, propane and butane. (1-4 Carbons in length) Chains 5 and 6 carbons in length are naphtas, which are used as solvents. 7-11 carbons in length are made into gasoline, 12-15 is kerosene, 16-18 is different grades of diesel and jet fuel, and above that to 20 is lubrication oil. Above 20 everything is a solid, these may ether be "cracked" into a smaller chain or made into waxes (vaseline) or asphault.
Chains of varying sizes are seperated in a fractional distiller; a tall cylinder with different runoff levels. When heated, the different chains boil and go towards the top of the cylinder. Of course, as they go to the top, they cool down and eventually condense into a liquid. This once again depends on their length; gasoline hydrocarbons condense at a higher level than diesel hydrocarbons do.) The liquids fall into a preset level in the distiller, and then runs off to become whatever product they are destined to be.
So, it costs just as much to refine any fuel. The price differences mainly come from taxes, price gouging and special tratment to remove the unwanted products that are pumped up with the hydrocarbons. (Sulfur, lead, etc.)
Some oil worker will probably chime in here and make me look like an idiot, but I'm pretty sure about that fractional distiller stuff.

Good post, Begle 1. So, it's the price gouging that we Californians always seem to be the biggest victims of. Arnold isn't helping us anymore than previous governor Davis. Natural gas is high, electricity is ridiculas, and of course diesel and gasoline...
That sucking sound is California $$$ going to the wealthy Texas oil companies.
THANKS GEORGE W.
