Transmission issues using Smarty Jr.
 

My work truck is a 2007 cab and chassis with the 6.7L. In January, had the DPF and EGR deletes done, and had a Smarty Jr. programmer installed (SW1 setting). All was good until recently. Had done some heavy 4x4 driving into some sites, and now the AS68RC transmission has a few quirks. 1) on 1/2 throttle or more, the 2-3 shift is long and seems there's nothing, then bangs into 3rd. 2) Putting it into reverse, it takes 1-2 seconds longer before it engages.
Took it to a tranny guy, and he suggested to put the programmer to "stock", run it, and see if it gets better. He said the programmer might not have adaptive learning for the transmission. I tried this, and it does seem to shift better. It has less power though, so perhaps it's not as apparent. Now, however, I have all the bells and whistles going off, because of the deletes.
Does the Smarty Jr. have adaptive learning for the transmission, or did I just fry the tranny by abusing it too hard?
If it doesn't have adaptive learning, is there something I can do, or just keep it stock? Also, I'm not sure if the "0" select would run with adaptive learning or not?

I don't know if the Smarty even touches any of the transmission parameters at all. The other programers out there like H&S have transmission tunes. That being said the transmission does adapt to the driving and load applied.

If the transmission is all of a sudden causing issues, I think it may be in trouble. Just by reducing the power is masking the slippage/shift problems on it from what I can see.

Thanks for the reply. This transmission has always been a little inconsistent with it's shifting. Like you said, the extra power is just making the problems more apparent. I guess I'll just have to baby it and see if it will last until I have some time off.

The C&C have the Aisin transmission, so I don't know how intricate that can be to learning or what the common failure modes are. The Aisin was supposed to be more robust, but nothing is perfect. I am assuming you went to Mel to ask about it, wonder if he has much work on the Aisin?

Yes, Mel is who I talked to. He mentioned, that he was just starting to get into the Aisin transmissions, but I'm confident in his abilities. Every transmission he has built for me is still in perfect working order.

For sure.. I send everyone I know to Mel. He did a tranny for my father-in-laws 95 and it worked really well.

You probably figured this out already, but...
Smarty does have torque management for the 68rfe but I don't know about the Aisin trans.
You can choose 0 on the program and it will default to the stock (no added power) tune but keep the me /delete capabilities. At least you can drive it without the bells and whistles until the trany goes.
Set your torque management to 1 which is the stock setting and least aggressive.
Do this and see what happens. Of course it all depends if the Smarty has Aisin tq management control.
