Question Those who went from 5.9 to 6.7

I just got done driving my father-in-law's 2010 2500. He deleted the DPF and NOX and added the Smarty, and wow, what a nice ride. For those of you who had a 5.9 and "upgraded" to a 6.7, would you do it again? What is better (besides exh. brake and 6spd. outo) and what is not as good or worse? I have found a really nice 09 and almost all of accessories would transfer. I think that this 5.9 will be hard to part with.

I bought an 07.5 6.7 and regretted it at the start. After deletes and after 150,000 miles plus, I am happy with what I have now.
Over the years, as you know, the 5.9 in the Ram underwent many changes and then switched to the 6.7. If the truck you have does the job you want, I would say keep it. However, if the improvements in the overall truck and the refinements that come with the 6.7 are outweighing your joy with the 06. Then you have a decision to make that I doubt you will regret once you do some alterations on the truck.

No matter what I own, its going to get tweaked. Have fun.

Its obvious you can't even leave an informative thread alone without messing it up with some kind of lame comment about my chair.

Sure glad I don't do that.

Own both. Great motors either way. If you are happy with what you have, stick with it. I like driving my wife's truck from time to time (6.7). But I always like getting back in my 2000 Ram! I guess it's a win-win either way.

i went from an 07 5.9 qcsb to an 11 MC. I miss the sound of the 5.9 and the power it had. I love the plush interior and ride of the new rig. Neither truck stayed stock for long, just like most everyone else!

I had a 2000 5.9, it almost put me in the loony bin with all the problems from the previous owner and due to a cracked 53 block I dumped it at the dealer and got the 6.7. Initially the emissions system was a problem but since it fell off due to our rough roads, things have been good. 15 months, no regenerations, no CEL's, much better fuel economy, the oil stays clean for 2,500 miles and that 6 speed auto is the cats meow. Would I go back, no. Is the 5.9 a great motor? Yes. If the 5.9 is working for you and you have no issues with it, keep it.

Love the 99 (farm truck) and my 08. Best trans dodge has made in the 08! Excellent towing setup. 99 is great except the 47re. I guess $$ could make it great too. Neither is a bad choice.

Ordered a new 05 5.9 6spd srw long box . Now I have 08 6.7 , by far the best truck I'v ever had. This truck will easly out tow my 5.9. Both trucks 3500s. The 6.7 is a tow animal.

I like driving my older truck than my new truck. More power and more reliable. I use my new truck for the family hauling, at least that was the plan. So far I don't think the truck is as tuff and as reliable as the older truck.

I'm definitely happier with my '09 now that I'm getting around 16 mpg! ... no mods on it yet either. Lovin' the 68rfe!

I went from an 07 5.9L 6spd 3.73 QC Short bed 4x4 into a 2010 6.7L Auto 4.10 MC 4x4.

I use the truck as a daily driver and at times it seems that it is a little lacking... I think this comes from the turbo lag and auto.

if i was going to buy another one i would probably go with a manual tranny again.

The 6.7L is a BEAST with a trailer behind it.

The 5.9L seemed to have better pick up and take off. I miss the sound and smoke of the little thing

The 07 got far better mileage also... I think some if it has to do with the rear end gears, but still 12-14 mpg sucks

I'm hoping that there is a 68RFE conversion for the 5.9 trucks in the future. I love my 5.9 but it could use a couple more gears. At 56K miles and only $12K left on the note I plan on keeping the 5.9 for another decade if it holds up.

I wouldn't count on a RFE68 5.9L conversion anytime soon. Longs wait till someone does a standalone programmer for a RFE68. Its a decent transmission, it just doesn't stand-up well under power. With dodge think 8 speed, probably not going to make dodge mopar part cat for the RFE68
