Those that have a 5" exhaust-

I wanting to put a 5" turbo back on my 6.7- I have heard it is overkill unless you are pushing 500hp or more but will it hurt the engine on a closer to stock truck? I don't really need the 5", I just think it looks better and has a better sound. Also, will a exhaust for a 04.5 to 07 turbo back fit on my 07.5?
Thanks

No, it will not hurt the engine. I installed a MBRP 5" TBE with a 6"tip at 20K miles on my 08. I now have 50K miles on my truck with no issues.
I bought a 06 5.9L exhaust for a Crew Cab Long Bed truck since I have a Mega Cab truck.
My son is using the same size exhaust system on his 5.9L, but our trucks sound totally different. This is do to the 6.7L, VGT Turbo.

What do you mean by totally different? Better or not as good as the 5.9? Would a 4" turbo back sound better on the 6.7?
Thanks

The sound from the 5" TBE on a 6.7L, is not as deep and it seems raspy. When the exhaust brake is engaged there is a high pitch whine, similar to a jet engine.
As for a 4" I can not say since I never installed one or have listen to one installed. Someone else with a 4" might jump in on this question.

I have a 4" tbe, it is plenty loud. My neighbor has 5" his is a little(hardly noticeable to my ears) deaper sounding. 4 or 5 is gonna have the jet engine sound due to the vgt.

I was in the same boat as the OP, couldnt decide. I went with 4" because my neighbors rattles every now and then. I hate rattles. It looks like the 5" gets pretty tight in the spare tire area.IMO.

Thanks for the information. My brother inlaw just put a mbrp 5" tbe with no muffler on his 07 5.9 and it sounds great. I can't even find a drone while driving it. I think I will try the 5 on mine.

Performance wise there is no need for the 5" below 600 or more rwhp.

Sound wise it's all about preference. You won't hurt anything, but its easier to drone with a 5" than a 4".
