Completely new? I don't think so - it's a B-series variant similar to the 6.7l agricultural (structural block) and European engines, although the engine supplied to Dodge apparently uses a larger bore and shorter stroke than the purely-stroked ag engine to allow higher RPM in the Dodge application.

It is a completely new motor compared to the current 5.9....not just larger bore or stroke. It has been out for a couple of years in medium duty use with the variable turbo and EGR. ks

I guess our definitions of "completely new" differ. To me, "completely new" means a clean sheet of paper design that shares absolutely nothing (e.g., bore centers, etc.) with its predecessor. We'll see if such is the case.

Thanks.

Remember that Ford and GM have not released their numbers for the 07 compliant engines yet.

I would not be suprised if they all loose power from what is currently available.

From what I understand the 6.7L is the only engine that will meet the specifications for sure. I believe Ford and Gm are having some issues on meeting the new emissions. I know CAT is as well. I know of at least 1 large company in the big rig world that couldn't make the 07 emissions so they are buying Cummins parts.

I think at this point the manufactures will just be happy to be able to have a truck that is 2007 compliant.

Guys, If you want to make alot of money...I'd invest in the company that makes the EGR particulate filters as every diesel company will be scrambling for these. ks

As to bulletproof tranny (if there is such a thing), I doubt the new 6-speed will reliably support a whole lot more power than stock. It makes no financial sense for D.C. to use a tranny capable of putting down 200hp over stock #'s.

I was reading an article in Diesel power mag. that said 40% of the parts in the 6.7 are carry-overs from the 5.9.

Another thing to remember, is that the other manufacturers will have to have a particulate filter too, that is why ford will be coming out with a 6.4 l ps in 08. And gm will be updating thier dmax too. It is the law. That is why we are all running usld now in our trucks.. I hope everybody is changing their fuel filters real often for the next while til our trucks get used to the new fuel

In the newest Diesel Power mag it shows 350hp / 650tq for the 6.7L, not 305/610.

I would bet there's no chance of making less power than the current 5.9L when the numbers mean so much to the average diesel buyer. Or if anything the lower numbers may be just for the chassis cab.

Cummins can do whatever they want with this engine------------It will still be a Cummins. There reliability and pulling power has and always will be great for the application. I have no fear with the new engines. I looked at one today and they are well thought out with placement of pieces! I did not drive this one because it was already someone's truck! The man looked like this !! The Cab and Chassie is Sweet!--------The power that will be made is entirely up to Dodge and Cummins! I know that with the new 6 speed Tranny's the Cummins Powered Dodges will make the New Ford and D-Max look bad. Heck the 610 Cummins just barely got beat by the Dmax with a crappy 4 speed and less power! Equal Power and a 6 speed tranny that is more aggressive than the Allison???? Clean Sweep Baby!!!!!! When the new 6.7l was first a rumor it was capable of 360 hp and 780tq-----I know that the Cummins can do this, but I dont think that the Dmax or the Powerstroke could live long at these power levels. To many internal parts to fail. Rant off!

I'm wondering how rpm reliant the 6.4 Powerstroke will be like the 6.0?
