Now what Uncle EPA?
OK, so like many others I've been waiting for the warranty to expire on my 08' before I do the deletes, Smarty, etc. I was excited about doing them and read through Blake Clark's 'how to' so many times I probably wouldn't even need to reference it. Now there's this whole non-compatable H&S, Smarty EPA thing with deletes. I'm not computer savey, really I'm not, to manipulate files and dont really know a 24me from a 28me. If someone were to send me a file I'd probably stare at it for a while then play solitair on this $700 video game/computer. So, with that being said, with this EPA stuff being discussed and the lack of support on the deletes, (yes, I finally got to my actual question), what in you all's opinion would be the next best programmer to consider w/o the deletes for a little extra giddy-up for my stock 08'? Pros/cons to the deletes with other programmers? Just looking for opinions, throw it out there. Thanks guys.

You can still buy a Smarty JR or the S67 for your truck it will be emission compliant. I would have the seller load in the compliant software for the Smarty for you, and then you will need to just re-flash the ECM in your truck. See the attached link for the Smarty site.

And the S67 page with information to read.

I guess bottom line is I need to educate myself with this stuff. Thought I could delete stuff, install the programmer, it and forget about it. Guess that aint the case if I have to keep chasing after codes and stuff.

There are several vendors who still have the s67 the jrme and the h&s tuners on the shelf that are programmed for deletes. Check with Larry in the dtr store, i wouldn't be surprised if he has a shelf full. a close friend of mine just got the full delete kit, ie: 5" exhaust, h&s tuner, gdp intake horn, egr cooler block offs for his 07.5 a week ago from dieselpowerproducts. Check with dtr store first though, help support the site. And Larry is really nice to deal with. I bet you'll have some luck.

I spoke with Larry at the store and he explained how to go about this. Electronics frighten me. I still own a 'Gameboy' if that tells ya anything and I never did figure out how to stop the 12:00 from flashing on my VCR.

What programmer to use.
I recently just got into diesel and that I purchased my first new Ram 2500 Laramie Limited last week. I have a 60mnth 100k mileage warranty but I want to do some upgrades mainly for better MPG's and a little performance. Im lost with all this stuff been reading every article you guys put out. I have the opportunity to get all the deletes a mini maxx programmer and 4" Pro Flow stainless exhuast installed for about $1600-1700.
Now I read that you can just turn off the egr with the Smarty and the Mini max instead of removing all the parts. My ? now is does this create any other problems or is it disable for good unless you go back to stock for some reason. Also what kinds of mpg increases would this produce or should I bite the bullet and do the complete process and not worry bout warranty.
This site is great and very informative thanks all in advance

The question is do you need to return to stock for testing or not. A lot more work putting the egr cooler and valve back on for the test.
If you leave the egr inplace then high exhaust pressure can force it open and sneak some gasses into the intake. I would put a freeze plug in the crossover if you keep it on the engine. It will block the gas flow and is easy to remove when needed.

I have the EGR/DPF delete, XRT and swapped out the factory exhaust for a straight 5" on my 2007.5. Last spring I had to go in for testing, I did NOT put my factory crap back on, just rolled into the power easy when I had to run the engine up to 2500 rpm, and I passed the test.
Need to update my sig, got rid of the Edge back in late 2008.
