Question about timing

After installing Mini Maxx w/trans tune and fully deleting my truck I have a rattling sound when accelerating. Almost sounds like detonation on older gas engine. Buddy tells me I should set timing to 2 and run tow power level to cure the rattling.

What do you all think? Truck is a 09 with auto trans and I only run stock power setting because I don't want to damage my trans or blow head gasket. I am happy with power at stock setting, more concerned about trucks components lasting as long as possible, and mpg.

Any reccomendations on what my settings should be?

No one wants to help an old man out with this new technology? Last diesel I had was a mid 80s 6.2. All mechanical no computers, much easier to work on.

I have same truck as you. 2009 with 6.7 & 68RFE. I went with the defaults thru the install of the min max, but I run the tow tune all the time. My mechanic said it wouldn't hurt it, and so far EGT's & trans temps confirm this. Diesel's do rattle, so can't help you there.

Usually the rattle is from additional timing, i notice this with my smarty and a cold engine. Try reducing timing to remove rattle.

Thanks everyone. Set timing to 2, and running tow. Rattling gone with more power. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't going to prematurely wear any components out doing this.
