MPG Updates J67ME & Deletes

I thought I would keep a log of my experiences and share them with you guys...

I just recently upgraded to the Smarty J67 ME with the DPF delete, 2nd cat delete and EGR disabled.

Before the mod my overhead read 14.6 and I calc'd 14.25

After the mod my overhead now says about 19 on level smarty 1. I think I'm doing more highway than typical though.

I haven't gotten thru my 1st tank yet so when I do I will post my calc'd mpg. My history shows that the overhead is pretty much right on so I have no doubt that it will still be right on.

I'm trying my hardest to drive consistently and frugally (is that a word? frugally? how about miserly?) so I can compare apples to apples.

I think for my next tank I will set the smarty at level 3 and try to drive as miserly as the 1st 2 and see how the MPG's compare.

Looking forward to sharing this info. I have no interest in exaggerating or being MPG King so i hope those of you who are looking for some real (or as real as we can get) info can gain something useful from this.

Ken

Good deal. Always a great use for empirical data. Keep us posted.

OK so I got thru my first tank... 17.2 mpg when my overhead said 18.2.
It did indicate up to 19 but that was on a short highway trip. Towards the end of this tank I was a little heavier footed but I'm still very happy with the results.

This tank I'm going to try driving as I normally do but using level 3.

I will update you in about 2 weeks

OK I only got thru 1/2 of my tank on level 3. I got 16.2 hand calc when the overhead said 16.8. Not a bad difference in the readings.

It was hard to keep my foot out of it and I had to tow a little but I don't think my MPG would have been a whole lot better. Still 1 mpg diff from the "economy" setting is not bad.

I'm towing this weekend and I'll probably go thru a couple of tanks going from Mesa AZ to Glamis sand dunes. I already set the Smarty on 2 - Towing - in preparation so we'll see how that goes.

In the past - well, all season - I got high 9's / low 10's when towing my little toy hauler. Its about 6000-7000 lbs loaded but its like pulling a parachute. I do all I can to reduce drag... I have a cap on my bed and a wind deflector on top of the cap. I do feel a difference with and without the deflector but havent driven enough without it to get any MPG data.

I'll report back my findings on monday or tuesday. Have a great weekend!

I run SW3 with other settings stock too. I get the same MPG when towing my smallish toyhauler as well. I just took a 700 mile trip from CA to the Colorado River and back unloaded for the first time ever and saw the overhead liar tell me up to 20.5 going and then went down to 17.9 on the way back (with some wind). I hand calculated 17.3 on the way up and have not checked on the way back yet. Sure is nice to see something other than 9 or 10 for a change! My truck tows 90% of its time on the road.

Sorry haven't posted sooner... been real busy taking apart my bike that died an hour into the first ride of the weeekend.

So going out to glamis I calc'd about (and I'm going from memory) 10.8 which is about 1 mpg better than I usualy do. I forgot my wind deflector on top of may cap though. I hope the lack of the deflector is not what gave me the 10.8!

On the way back I had 2 extra bikes, 2 extra people, their stuff, and some pretty stiff winds. I got about 9.8 mpg.

This was all on level 2. I'm going back to 1 for my day-to-day driving. I hope to get back up to 17 but its so hard to keep the foot out of it.

I guess that's about it for my little experiment. I suppose if I find something that works good for MPG increases I'll let you know.

If i get mine up to 60 on the interstate and hit the reset button the over head will average about 29-30mpg after the smarty, dfp egr delete. There is NO way this is my actual mileage. Im at level 1 on the smarty and i (try to) keep my fuel pressure under 10k and under 2.0lbs of boost. Mixed driving gets me about 21 according to the overhead. I just did the mods so I havent ran through a tank yet to hand calc but so far im at 365mi and im at half a tank
