310mm is still a 12" converter. Interesting, that alone should keep the stall speed fairly high. With all that torque they should have moved up to a 13" converter.

I have read about the new 6spd auto for the 6.7's, but I did not know there was 2 versions of the new 6 speed auto tranny.

that makes no sense that there are 2 different six speed autos for the cummins powered trucks. I could see one for the gas motor and then one for the heavy duty diesels but whether its a mega cab or Crew cab shouldnt make a difference. Got any links to back that up?

the aisin ac68rc is just for the c/c line the 68rfe is what is going into the DH/D1 line,
the 68rfe is built from the 545rfe platform, it is also very large on the insides but i have not put my hands on one, YET! I have seen slides of the internals. the 68rfe uses six pinion gear train, and 12-14 SINGLE-side clutch discs in the od/ud packs, as for the torque converter design i haven't seen.
i will say the RFE line has a great track record, in the five years building trans for DCJ i have only built a hand full of 45/545RFE's.
more to come as i get the info.
also have a 6.7L on an engine stand, waiting for internal inspection!

One is for commerical use(3500 C&C,4500,5500) and has PTO. The D.C. tranny for lighter usage is how I see it.

I hate to say it, but that's isn't real hard to do. I've said this several times before-the allison that comes in the gm trucks is not the Jesus Of Transmissions. From the sound of it, this trans ought to be a good bit stronger than the allison.

I read another long post about this on this site. Supposedly the aisin is only for the cab & chassis truck and is desinged for severe use and it has a pto. Also, it is a $2300 option. the 68rfe is a less expensive/less heavy duty model for the pickups. I guess we'll know for sure come january.

the Aisin has a input torque rating of 565ft/lbs (unoffical of 750+ft/lbs), has PTO provisions, which makes it more of an idustrial unit, DM also only has a five year production run contract, so if this trans fails it will be out quick!
the input torque rating for the 68RFE is still undisclosed at this time but it still looks to be a stout trans! this unit is also chrysler built, so if it sucks then we will fix it till it awesome! sarcasim

I was looking for the pictures of the internals of Aisin 6 speed, do you still have them. Pray you made it through the fires untouched.

I was talking to a guy that teaches at the training center in Ohio....he's is mainly focused on training techs on the truck trannys. I was picking his brain about the Aisin that I have in my SRW 3500 that I ordered that way. Amongst other great things he had to say about the Aisin, he was telling me about a Cummins/Aisin Ram that the training center for from a contractor that traded this truck in on a new unit. He was telling me that the truck had over 800,000 miles, and most of them was with a trailer behind it that was always loaded heavy. Anyhow, he said that the motor and tranny had never had any major failure or breakage, and that other than very routine servicing, he had no money invested in it since the initial purchase. The training center pulled the motor and tranny out and broke them down to inspect everything, and much to their surprise, neither had any major issues with them other than being tired from the kind of miles they had. The previous owner had the fluids and filters replaced in both every 40k miles regardless if they needed it or not....he used Rotella T6 in the motor, and the recommended Chrysler tranny fluid/filter. That was all good to hear since I spent the extra money on the Aisin. My other 2 Cummins powered Rams both had the 6 speed manuals, because at the time, I didn't think that Chrysler had a good auto tranny that could hold up to the power of the Cummins motor over the long haul. My 2005 Duramax powered 3500 had the Allison tranny, it limped and shifted like crap since new. I'm sold on the Aisin tranny....IMO it's truly a real commercial grade tranny that is designed to work hard and hold up....now based off of what he told me, the extra money was well spent.
