Tire Chains
I'm going on a trip where there is a high likelihood that I will need tire chains at some point, truck is a 2009 4wd diesel with stock tires/rims (should be in signature). Does anyone have any recommendations on specific brands or actual part numbers? There seems to be a wide range of prices and brands out there. Keep in mind that I probably won't need these more than a week or two per year. Thanks!

Pewag is the commercial chains alot of folks run. Their tougher than standard link chains, and have a pretty easy tensioner. You can get a cheaper set from a parts store like advance auto (DO NOT GET CABLE CHAINS) but their more likely break if you get spinning hard.....after a while you'll get to where you can fix links in minutes on the side of the road and if your not using your chains that much they'll probably be fine!

i took a set of 8mm trygg triples off a log truck and built a set. narrowed cross links and doubled them to make more cross links ( super singles ) it will climb a tree if the bark would stay on. took a good part of a day to build but worth it

Check these out, much easier to deal with than chains, they even got approved to use in Colorado. www.autosock.com

AutoSock........
When the time comes to chain a 4X4 truck your gonna need a hell of alot more than an AutoSock....
A "MAN" driving a 4X4 diesel powered truck who puts a gimmick like the AutoSock on his truck needs to relinquish is "Man Card" and drive a Prius.

I don't drive a 4x4 so it don't apply to me, I get to keep my "man card" based just on that, but when you have to sling steel on a semi for soo many years, you'll eventually get sick of being out in the cold, dealing with the tangled links and what could happen if you break a link and the chains get wrapped around your axle. Don't forget dealing with the other idiots on the road. I just plan my trips around the weather if possible. If they ain't soo manly, then why are alot of trucking companys switching over to them? Of course, I'm talking about on the road, not off on the muddy trail.
