Cat delete with factory muffler.
I had a spare cat delete pipe layin around so I put it on a friends truck last night. It is an 07 4dr 5.9 dually. I also took out the silencer ring and gutted the intake pipe. We will likely make an intake like 53 willys's later down the road.
The truck sounds good, it is not loud by any means but I think it was worth the effort and it has a very nice tone. Though I have not ridden in the truck yet (too dirty last night) my buddy called me after he got home and said turbo spool up was increased and he could actually feel the differance wich I found hard to beileve but he said it definately felt quicker/stronger. I posted this just cause I havent heard of anybody deleteing the cat and leaving the factory muffler in place though I just thought I would put it up for an FYI. Oh, and the thing that baffled me is (this truck is COMPLETELY stock except for a set of 265 mickeythompson mtzs) is after intial start up you could rev it up and it would smoke black. And when he left in front of me it was smokin goin down the road. It is not gonna stop traffic but it was smokin as much as my truck with my old quad on 100hp. |
It's going to smoke. The extra fuel that the computer injected to keep the cat hot (3rd injection event) is now going out the tailpipe without being totally burned.

I'm really curious what a truck with stock megacab resonator left in place only and the cat removed would sound like. Right now I still have my cat & resonator in place and the muffler removed. I LOVE the way it sounds and I'm afraid to compromise the sound by removing the cat. [redface]
