Anyone with an 08 with NO problems??
 

Reason I'm asking is because I just bought one, upgraded from my 02 2500 to the 08 3500 and I'm very happy with it. 2 guys at work have them (06,07), one with deletes, one without, both with no problems. The more I read about recalls and DPF and EGR causing warranty work and replacing turbos, etc., the more worried I get. I won't be able to afford deletes for a while and just want to not have to replace a turbo in the meantime. As is, there's nothing indicating anything's wrong, no codes, truck runs great, mileage is even good. I run with the E-brake on most of the time to try and keep things clean. Gonna load it up with a quad trailer and firewood this weekend and take it for a good burn...
In any case, sorry for the worry rant, just want to keep the new one alive [laugh]

Ya I have an 08 bought it new in Dec 07 and no major problems. Only a TIMP sensor went out about 2 months after I got it, fixed under warranty and nothing since. Where I'm at now in AZ, I live only 5 min from work and I can tell you these trucks don't like the short runs. They soot up quick and give the message that catalyst is full (80%) within 2 weeks of driving like that. I have to take it out on Highway to blow it out and regen every 2 weeks now. The good side of living so close is I can go about 1 month before I have to fill up with the limited running around I do. (everything fairly close) Only mods I've done are CAI and wheels and tires. Thanks, yeah, from what I've read I think the daily driver short runs really goop it up. I changed the oil today, filled it up and took it for a good highway run. Used the manual shift switch on the shifter handle to limit it to 5 and ran a good 40-50 miles at 2500 rpm or so. Smelled the cat at least twice and when I got home could hear the clicks and snaps in the exhaust system so it definitely kicked in a couple of times. Ran with the jake brake on all the time too so hopefully gave it a good clean.

I have an 07.5 and have had the egr valve and dpf replaced. Besides that no problems (knock on wood). Egr has been unplugged for 6 months and I really like it.
Deletes for me this winter.

I have 61,000 miles on mine, been running full deletes for about 35,000 of those. No issues at all. I love my 08!!!

Yeah but you have full deletes. It seems the deletes cures the truck but it's going to be a while before I can do any. Just wanted to hear if anyone's been running stock with no issues...

I would expect a problem at some point. They are good trucks, but they are more likely to have an issue, than not. The sooner you accept it, the easier it will be to deal with. That's just the way it is.
My brother has a completely stock 08, and had to have the turbo replaced (under warranty) at 51,000 miles. The truck has always run good, but the turbo still went out, due to the flawed EGR system. He will deal with it again, it's just a matter of time. You can't fix something that has a design issue, back to original specs, and expect a different result.
Run the truck the way it was designed, don't do lots of short hops and stops, and save up for the future.
Your Dodge isn't unique. I love my 12 valve, but know that a transmission replacement will be a necessity one day. Fords, Chevys, etc.- none are perfect, and will need something.

Yeah, good points, fair enough. I hope I won't need a turbo, for all I know, it's already had one replaced...136,000km is about 85,000 miles, still waiting to see if I can get service records...

Once you unplug the egr actuator you've disabled the system and removed the bulk of the soot from entering the intake. This improves combustion efficiency, reduces soot creation and reduces the amount of active regen cycles. All good things.
I have 1/3 the amount of active regens now and that's at greatly reduced egt's. Low egt's mean little or no passive regens, so the total soot make is extremely low.
Less soot makes for a happy turbo.
Your truck is still stock, except for one connection being unplugged.

I went the unplugged route back in 08, It caused the truck to surge especially in reverse. If I remember correctly there were several who reported this, Cant remember but I think it had something to do with current flash on truck. I just plugged mine back in and went with it. Unplugging also de-rates about 70 HP from the truck if I remember also. There were a lot of people doing it so there must be something to it, just didn't work for some.

does anybody have any ideas to come up with a cummins 6.7 dodge 08 programmer that doesn't cost an arm and a leg? I want to be able to look at the ecm parameters and be able to calibrate my turbo actuator and other things, and I want to be able to shut off the service required message in the overhead console, I have a total egr delete, runs good stock, 80,000 miles and believe it or not after my delete went on a vacation trip and got 24.6 mpg. change oil 6000 miles.

There's no power loss after unplugging.
And yes, every truck is different, has different dealer flashes and behave differently when things are done to them.
For mine I get the start up surge from the tcv but cannot remove the butterfly without going into limp mode during active regen. Not typical with the unplugging.

I had mine totally stock for 97k kms and not a hitch! still pulling strong. I just deleted it now just to be in with the crowd I guess lol

I have an '08.with 86k miles. It's been deleted since 44k miles.
No problems at all, except u-joints
