6.7 vs. 5.9
I am going to buy a new truck for pulling my equipment around along with my pulling truck. How do you guys with the 6.7 like them? Auto or manual. Or do I just stick with the old realible 5.9. I will probably leave stock as it has to be dependable and I already have one money pit.

listen man you just started one heck of a thread i think. the 6.7 guys are always gonna say there great, besides the ones who had a ton of problems and couldnt take it anymore and went to old reliable.IMO wait 5 more years before you even consider that nightmare.the 5.9 has been proven time and again.its a no brainer.but good luck.

I'd say my buddy's got a new 08 6.7 and after this weekend I'd say the 6.7 got guts. I was pulling about 3k and he was pulling his 36' 5er @ 10k and he kept up with me and I was on it at times. He's all stock. I'd have to say it's got to be that new auto tranny. I think my tranny is a little week, it's always felt that way but it always gets me there.

If your gonna keep it stock, i'd get the 6.7.....
I have the 5.9, love it, and would get again as i modd'd it...but the 6.7l has the good trans, now has 2 yrs under it's belt,.....i like my buddies 6.7, it pulls great, has been reliable....mileage needs a touch of help...

If you are considering the 6.7 be prepared to start deleteing stuff. If you dont you will more than likely get frustrated with it. If you do you will not be disappointed, another thought... there is a ton more stuff out there to mod out the 5.9 at this time, making it easier and cheaper to get more out of it. HOWEVER.... them 5.9 guys dont have that sweet as honey 6 spd auto.... na na na na na na.....

I would buy a 6.7 if I were to leave it stock. You never know what you're going to get with a 5.9 either. My '03 with the same rims/tires would get 18mpg highway. My '07 gets 13.5 at most. Most tanks average from 11-12, mixed driving. That's hand calculated, every tank for the life of the truck.
My point- I'd take the 6-speed auto and 6.7 any day (***IF I WERE TO LEAVE IT STOCK***)

If you want to stay stock get the 5.9, youll have zero probems and if you want to upgrade to can, very easy.
If you get the 6.7 and want it to live nice and healthy mod it, take the DPF and EGR off. Youll get much better power, MPG's, and longevity will increase.

By modding i meant chase the HP/TQ Dragon, not basic stuff...but agree, if your states emissions dont test every 5 seconds that the egr/dpf stuff needs to be resolved
