2009 Locked ECM bootloader
2009 Locked ECM bootloader
Could one change out the ECM that has the locked bootloader with a 2008 (with all the same options on the truck) ECM , or would you have to get the dealer shop to set up the ECM for your truck.
Question 2
has anyone ran the Edge race juice on a 2009 dodge with the locked ECM if so how is it, worth 900 bucks?

The new ecms are shipped out with out software and all the replacement 6,7 ecms will be of the locked variety.Buying a used ecm might work if your truck doesn't have the skim system and the used ecm does not either or if you have the vin and pin#for the used and you don't care about non matching miles logged in the different modules
It's not just the ECM's that are locked. All of the later updates have to preload the ECM with the bootloader software before doing the update. I had mine in recently for other concerns and left strict instructions to not do any updates if the bootloader was required. They told me it prompted right away for it so they cancelled out of the upload and didn't do the update. Be careful. Look at the attachment around the bottom of page 4.

thats why the 09 didn't scare me to much as if your 6.7 of any year gets to the dealer it will be the same or if the ecm is bad it will be reaplaced with it.Someone in the aftermarket will figure it out, and I don't plan on doing any upgrades for a year anyway plus for what I saved in incentives the new truck was the so close to the same price as a 07-08 that it made no sense to buy a used with 50-75k on it.
the whole bootlegger makes no sense to me anyway as they tell me the downloader software leaves a footprint anyway so if the dealer sees the footprint void the warranty, why do it like this...
There is always the edge boxes that do not download...its when the ecm locks under any above and beyond paramaters that we are in for it....

I was never impressed with the StarScan and it's ability to track down something. Most techs don't get that good of training on it to begin with. Mostly it's one tech that gets a high level of specialized training and then shares what info is necessary at that point to help the other techs that are stuck on a problem. Lots of the functions are repetitive anyways. Not to mention techs don't get paid for diagnosing under warranty. They have to swap or update something to gat paid for doing it. Then it doesn't pay waht it takes to actually do it so most don't waste time hunting for reasons to not get paid anymore. Just don't give them a reason to be vindictive. Now it's not as easy to say but shop around if it's dealerships you have to use. You may find 3 out of 5 are just impossible to deal with where as the other two will see the value in having you as a customer and as a repeat customer as well. just my .02

So do all 2009 trucks have this bootloader problem right now with trying to get a smarty on them? Is there a build date or something we can check to see if we have a truck with this issue? I'm picking up my new to me truck thursday and had planned on running a smarty. Thanks for any help.

Emailed MADS and this is there response....
"Hello,
we are working on the compatibility to new trucks right now, but we cannot tell any release date for the moment.

I would been pretty surprised if someone doesn't crack this in a year.I've read that ford and chev is going the same way as well in the next few models. Here 's hoping for better mpg
