fuel system over pressure
Ok...new one for me. Tried searching the forum for something similar but did not see anything.
First things first: it's a deleted 08 6.7. Smarty s67Jr me. Plus 40HP. Standard torque management. No POD set up. 178k miles. Delete done at 100k. No issues with delete unless you call better fuel mileage, better performance and no maintenance issues a problem.
Cruising down the interstate at a good rate of speed yesterday. Had been motoring along pretty hard for about an hour and a half. Stepped into it to get around a few folks. Chime, engine light came on, overhead console gave the standard, "need service. see dealer". At the time the light came on engine lost a good bit of power but not like a de-fuel. Temperature good. Oil pressure good. No other bad indications or lights came on. No noticeable smoke. Roughly 10k on fuel filter. Fuel level about half tank.
Exited interstate a couple of miles after light came on to get on another highway. Stopped at a stop sign....engine back to full power leaving the stop.
Got home and hooked up the Smarty. Gave a code I've never seen P-0007 and read "Fuel system over pressure. Fuel pressure relief valve actuated."
Anybody seen this before? Something about to go bad?

Hi there, it seems this can be a common issue/problem, especially with the conditions you've stated... Once this relief valve pops it is never the same or good again. Some people will shim the valve to "fix" it. Some people will replace it (the suggested route). Some people install a plug to delete it. Deleting or shimming existing is the highest risk obviously, but I have not heard of many issues from it...

Thanks for all the responses. I believe I will watch and see what happens. If it happens again I'll look at replacing the relief valve.

Now that it has "popped" it may pop again sooner and easier. So just be aware. Some people get the plug and have it available to install in case it happens on a trip or when towing...

I have not had to do it myself yet, but I don't think it is very hard to do. Maybe a few access difficulties, but easy enough to do on the road with some basic tools.

I have seen issue with PCM causing that problem. Code would stay active and fuel was freely flowing out PLV. Max pressure reached at rail was 12,000 psi. Turned out to be PCM.
