wrecked truck need advice

so my buddy totalled my truck this weekend. I can by it back for 9 grand. is it worth it? can I part it out for more with my $5000 dollar georend and my motor and axles and stuff. the motor has like 34000 miles. He just tipped it on to the passenger side. I want to get a used tranny and trade out but i only have about a week to get it done. Do i just take the money and run or what? So torn and confused on what i should do any advice would help.
THANKS

dayum, don't know what I would do in that situation, any way to make buddy buy half of it back to you for the trouble, that way you got it for 4500, and he pays for his mistake. then if you part it out, the trans and motor alone get you ahead of the game. Tough to learn from this one, but one reason I don't loan out mine.

EDIT: lookin at your sig, there are a lot of good parts that would sell fast, considder the interior too, leather ? all worth big bux. list em here in the classifieds section and sell em fast.

well what sucks is for once in my life i make the right choice not to drink and drive and let somebody else drive and I still get punished. if I thought he could afford it I would make him pay half.

that does make it a lil more complicated...... what about his insurance, he is an insured driver, his policy may cover part of the loss, whatever your policy does not ? I am not an insurance guy, but seems like a possibility.

Is the insurance paying enough to buy another truck? If so, let them have it and buy another. You are not a salvage yard, and marketing and dismantling the truck will take time, space, and money.

sorry to hear about that man, wish ya the best of luck...

I would buy it back, rip the trans, motor, rears, and any salvageable part off of it and list it on the internet.

[I]f you were closer to me I would swap you transmissions and give you $$$.
I am betting the transmission and motor will bring more that the insurance wants for the truck.
If you have alternative transportation for a couple of weeks, that is the way I would go. Either that or depending on the damage, buy it back and rebuild it. Then you would own the truck outright.

if it's bad enough to write it off it'll will never be the same and it will drive you nuts , and selling parts these day is a pain in the but , take the money and run. I've been in your shoes but I did the damage with help from black ice it sucks. ps some times if you hold out and ask for more money they may just give it to, at least up here in B.C some times LOL

Did you telll them all the aftermarket stuff you had in this truck? I been through this, ask for more money! Hagle! HAgle! Hagle! Then take the money and run. My buddies 05 got laid over on the pass side. $15,000 to start (Repairs) and its still going to try an make it right.
