Why does everyone want smoke?

Smoke is really unburnt fuel, right? Smoke plugs up cat converters, right? Seems to me that smoke is bad in a diesel engine and is a sign of ineffeciency. If this is true, then why does everybody want their truck to smoke? I dont want to plug my cat up, and I dont want my new $40k truck to look like a gasser that needs new rings, but I kinda feel like I am missing something here. Is the smoke just a natural byproduct of more power and people equate more smoke to more power? So the more smoke, the more power? Thats all I can figure. Someone please set me straight. [duhhh]

if it smokes with then turbo is lit, thats not good.

but smoke before it spools is just plain cool...and they are right....the ULTIMATE COME AND GET SOME statement!

If it dont smoke black take it back. Besides, ever been cut of, or see that guy you dont like walking on the sidewalk, you can take a diesel dump on them!!

qzilla 10-12-2006 11:11 PM

The smoke is caused by too much fuel that is not completely burned. Because these are turbo charged engines you can sppol the turbo much faster by throwing fuel at the engine and allowing much more exhaust to spool the turbo. Once the truck is boosted the smoke should clear if it is properly tuned.

Now you do not have to make a lot of smoke to make power. It is just that the more power you want you have to burn more fuel.

i have a pile of them creatures laying in a pile behind the toolshed, seems like everytime someone gets a new truck here another is born...

From what I know, a cat belongs inside the shop/shed/garage. Maybe in the rafter's or hidden under the work bench. Thats where you will find those pesky meece. Those things do their best where no one can see them. Kinda sneaky like.

Since I treated my truck to a Smarty, I have discovered what making "smoke" really is...[laugh] [laugh] I have to remember that I am driving my truck and pay attention, and not FOCUS totally on my right side mirror.[guitar]

Cats are for laying in your lap while you are on the computer. [duhhh]

I love it with the duals except you have two mirrors to look at. What is great is racing some dude in a ricer that has his windows down(you know, so they can get more power without A/C on). When you take him off the start, you smog him out, BAD. That is the ultimate defeat right there. LOL

P.S. you dont have to turn off your A/C or unload all your friends from our trucks to beat a ricer unless he is really decked out w/ mods.

oh yeah and the smoke looks cool too.

Cat?
