Yep, we have all Powerstrokes at work, and last week it took us, and Im not kidding, 2 hours to get the van started; and it was right around zero. However, that same morning, the ol Dodge fired right up!! I cycled the plugs on the stroker 3, 4, 5 times and it would almost start to fire up but just wouldnt do it. I could easily not even let the grids cycle and the Cummins will fire up no problems...

 

My truck is harder to start in the cold since the addition of larger injectors. It also hazes blue smoke indefinitely if you let it idle twenty minutes upon startup and it's 15*F outside. Half a block later it is burning clean, idling great, loving life. I've started lots of times at -5 to -10*F, but it is more difficult with bigger injectors for sure.

 

I have a buddy who is in a Ford family... they do a lot of snowmobiling, and have started all three of there trucks, 97 7.3, 99 7.3, and 03 6.0 in sub zereo, and as low as -20*F, without being plugged in.. with little trouble.... but their dad also drives an 06 duramax for work, and if its below 40 he cant hardly get the dang thing started... He gets fuel gelling in the filter at about 20*, and had to put a winterfront on to keep the block and fuel warm enough to rev above 2000 on days as warm as 20*... thats messed up...

But dodge still has it.... I can't figure out why the other trucks use glow plugs when a grid heater is SOOO much better IMHO.

 

I had this problem too, but once i got a pan heater for my oil it didnt do it as much. it will do it sometimes but very rare now.

 

mine runs really rough at work for a little bit when I first start it. it sets outside when im gone for 2 days but after it runs for a couple mins its fine. when you first start it, it doesnt sound good at all but it evens out fast

 

Whats a 06.5 Ram?
