I am looking at three mods on the 06 Mega: Airbox, power box, and cat-back. Nothing crazy. I'm thinking that all I really need is the muffler delete kit.

Those 3 are the best bang for the buck items in my opinion. Don't forget the EGT gauge, especially if you tow alot.

For those of you thinking about doing a muffler delete, let me offer this piece of advice... If you are going to do it, pay the extra $$ for something with an exhaust hanger, and pay to have it welded on if you can't do it yourself. I used the big band clamps, and they don't stay tight enough to keep the tailpipe from moving up and down. Its not a mechanical problem, but its just something that bugs me. My truck is going down to the local muffler shop to have the straight pipe welded up and a hanger added tomorrow.

Sound

I will just add my $.02. Deleting the cat and muffler and running straight will produce a very raspy -and- LOUD sound. To my ears, not very pleasant regardless of how loud. I don't mind loud, but a more refined sound is what I prefer. There is an '05 that runs this way near my shop.........my god, I don't think I have ever heard anything louder!! Raspy. But not a good sound to my ears. Perhaps too much gunfire has damaged them?

I would recommend a balanced system, cat or not, 4,5, or 6 inch that will produce a more mellow and yet loud, deep diesel tone, and even better flow. There are several good vendors on here that can handle this. I would speak to them. Money in the bank in my opinion.

Chris

Ok, I snapped some photos of the stock exhaust on my Megacab.

This is a shot of the muffler and resonator from the back:

Muffler and resonator from the front:

And I think this is the catalytic converter:

It was dark outside, so these were a point and hope for the best composition.

It looks like the stock exhaust is just assembled from sections held together with U-bolt type clamps?
