Like it says. Planning ahead for the upcoming roadside smog tests.

I've been using the 5% bio when I can get it and I've never noticed an increase in the smoke, either quantity or opacity.

You've made me curious now - have you heard or read that bio increases smoke?

I need to have my truck tested soon and just want to make sure I don't put myself in a bad situation.

Bio

I have ran a few tanks of bio-diesel usually at 20% it produces a smoke reduction actually and quiets the engine quite a bit also.

Less smoke and less opacity in my experience.

I remember reading a thread on here about it a while ago. I reader said that the way to pass an opacity test is to run bioDiesel.

I ran B20 in mine as well for a few tanks. It turns the smoke a greyish color rather than black.

Like stated it smokes less, I run B20 and man it runs so much smoother and more quite its unreal. I pay the extra 30cents a gallon everytime for it.

I experienced less smoke with bio as well. If you add two stroke oil, it contributes to smoke so if you have to go in for emissions, skip the two stroke oil for a tank or two. As far as roadside testing, hard to do much with that, maybe a second tank with smoke free fuel and an in-cab selector switch!

I've noticed that smoke output during emissions testing has a LOT to do with how quickly the tester mashes the accelerator. If they give it a second to spoolup, my truck is smoke free, if they mash it, mine will smoke a good puff with all power adders turned off.

My owners manual says only use a maximum of 5% biodiesel. Why is that? If you use B20, what happens (good or bad)?

I run B-20 90% of time, only run without it if I travel and cannot get it. I have never had any problems at all. I voided my warranty with all of the mods, so I can do what I want with my truck. I don't know the answer to your question, probably a corporate thing when bio was first coming out and not being sure of quality? but that is just speculation on my part. I would like to know the answer to that too, I heard or read they did approve B-20, but don't know that for sure. There are folks that run B-100 without problems (in warm enough weather). ------ One thing for sure, if you run B-20 (maybe even B5, not sure) - - You can stop spending money on 2-Stroke ashless oil or any other lubricity improving agent, because you won't need them, as none of them are as good as Bio.
