Where's The Leak?
I need some opinions on the origin of my minor but pain in the butt leak. I collect a small amount of what I think is motor oil but not for sure at the opening at the bottom of the bell housing. I have read numerous posts with similar problems. Here is what I have eliminated. First off, it isn't the valve cover gasket, rocker box gasket or head gasket because this stuff stays dry as a bone. So I am left with rear main seal or some kind of slow leak from the slave cylinder inside of the bell housing. On close inspection the fluid may be brake fluid from the slave cylinder, does anybody know a cheap test to do on one little drop to tell if it is brake fluid or motor oil? It never drips enough to get on the ground only a drip hanging and a little flys back on the tranny but not much. I am thinking about just pulling the slave cylinder out and looking at it. Jay

You sure it's not just the crankcase vent tube? I get oil on the bellhousing like that, and it is just oil blowing off the vent tube. You can pull that small bellhousing cover to make sure it's not a rear main seal. Just look up there with a flashlight to see if there is an oil leak.
There is a distinct difference between the smell of motor oil and brake fluid. That should be pretty easy to tell.
