Turbo charging gas fired engines is way different than boosting diesels. In gas you are fixed in your air fuel ratio and more boost has to come with more air. Not so with diesel as you can have air-fuel ratios of 100:1 so the boost pressures can be 100+ psi. Compounding the turbos is the only way to reach that compression ratio. No one turbo can flow enough air (lb/min) and reach 100 psi.

Yeah I run over 25psi on gas and all the honda guys think I'm nuts.

I smoke them... they try it... and they blow a HG or fry a cylinder sleeve.

I admit I have spent alot more time working on gas engines.

Any ideas for any books or other resources about turbocharging as applied to a diesel. I mean some serious scientific/technical books.

I have to say that the turbocharged gas engines are more of a science. You walk a fine line between ultimate power and ultimate distruction..With the diesel its just more air please, then more fuel, then more air until you blast the head into space.

Scotty,
If you can get a centrifugal compressor with that compression ratio, I would like to see it.

i apologize for vendor bashing -- just feelin' a little "burnt", the bitterness just flows out of my fingertips into my keyboard -- seeking therapy for this condition (i need a hug )
if you want to buy banks, i got a heck of a deal on a monster exhaust for my 03 at torqueandchrome.com (hope that isn't breaking the "rules" - jsut trying to share my good experience).
as far as the install (previous post) goes, it is EASY, why pay someone to do it? the only tool not mentioned for the removal is a sawzall, if you don't have one, then that is a wonderful excuse to get buy one for your tool arsenal. ;D

roperdog,

I wasn't pointing fingers at anyone. Just trying to keep things headed in a civil direction. These threads can get out of hand sometimes. I try to steer things back on track with a simple reminder.
