I have read quite a few times that fuel pressure gauges are good to have. Is this only for a truck that is bombed with a fueling box? The only thing I've done so far is reomved the X baffle in the intake tube and I plan on putting a free flow muffler in place of the stock one later. The truck also tows a 9000 lb travel trailer in the warmer months. Do I need a fuel pressure gauge?

 

It will show you if your lift pump goes out. Could end up taking your high pressure injection pump out. That being said I dont have one yet.

 

Fuel pressure guages are for monitoring lift pump they have a tendancy to go bad especially in second gen trucks and if it is equipped with the vp44 injection pump the injection pump can die due to lack of fuel pressure which is required to cool and lubricate pump. fuel pressure and pyro are the two most important guages boost is nice as well to detect a leak in hoses or intercooler. If you have a auto a transtemp guage is a good safety feature to have as well for heat is what kills a automatic transmission I hope this has helped

 

IMHO these trucks should have never left the factory without a FP guage. They are very easy to install, but if you don't feel comfortable doing it get a buddy or take it to a shop. It's that important.

Very easy to do. Most set ups come with easy to follow instructions.

Mount the gage first, but don't tighten everything up just yet. The gage goes somewhere in your cab. Mounting and placement are up to you. I have mine down below the ashtray and to the right. I do too much in town driving for the pillar mount stuff. IMHO.

You'll need a 12v power source to the guage for night driving that is dimable so I tapped into the ash tray light. Its hooked up to the dimmer. Really looks cool too!

I'm not sure on the "04.5" where you need to tap into the fuel system, it should be after the (post) filter so you know what your filter is doing. Someone else can help with that. Run the 1/8" line through the firewall to the guage. You can run the 1/8" line through a 1/4" line for protection against rubbing and chaffing or use black tape where it touches. Use tie wraps to secure everything. Connect the line to the guage are you are good to go. It is really pretty simple, but if you feel that you need help ask a buddy or hire someone.

Most kits come with everything you need including mounting brackets, lines, connections, instructions, ect.

The lines will have air in them for a few weeks, then it goes away. Don't worry about bleeding them. Pressure is pressure.

Should be a 3 beer, 2 hour job at the most. Unless you ask Hoss to help

 

If you tap in post filter it should tell you when your fuel filter is getting dirty.
