What Valve Body & Why?

My transmission build is progressing and I need to start looking at valve bodies.....

So far, I bought:

BD Black FlexPlate
Opie Billet Input
Mag Hytech Doulbe Deep Trans Pan
Billet 4.2 Apply Lever
Billet Strut
Billet Front Servo Cover

What valve body should I look at and why?

Do I need all new solenoids/electronics with the new VB?

Are the BD and ATS units junks?

Call Dave G 563-778-2719. He will tell you to go with the 3.8 lever and not the 4.2 with the HP valve body.

The trans will be getting a full rebuild while it is out, along with the upgrades

From doing my own race car trans I would say it has to do with the way dave has is pressures and stuff setup for shift timing/application.

Everybody used to automatically throw a 5.0 lever in their 727's when they used them for performance, but that has changed. If you don't use dave's valve body, i would ask the company that is supplying the valve body. The higher ratio really doesn't = better shifts without know the rest of the build details. I have friends who use the 3.8 levers in race cars and I use the 4.2 in mine (that is what griner recommended since he built the valve body)

hope that helps

Thanks for all the help and info

Anyone know about the GM Governor Solenoid conversion?

Good or bad?

This kit was specifically designed to handle higher base pressure in high performance applications and to improve the reliability of the governor solenoid in normal use. In performance units the pressure can flood the Dodge solenoid and cause a no shift condition at full throttle. This is the fix. Fits all rear wheel drive RE model transmissions.

A 5 to 1 ratio gives an extra 31% torque holding capacity in second gear

Placing one pound of force on the tip of the apply lever causes 5 pounds of force on the band.

For a 4.2 apply lever, the same theory:

Placing one pound of force on the tip of the apply lever causes 4.2 pounds of force on the band
