What the ticking sound under hood when u turn key forward?

i have a lift pump in tank on my 2004.5 . i bought truck used but I think it was updated. you can hear the lift pump at rear of truck. but under hood i hear clicking sound when key turned forward before i start it. it doesnt sound like grid heater. sounds like its coming from fuel anister. is it the fuel heater.it goes tick, tick, tick , tick for ever until i turn key to start truck.

how often does it "tick" it might be your grid heater kicking on and then off but cant tell for sure.... park the truck in a dark spot at night turn the key and look under the hood make sure its not something arcing, reason i say do it at night in the dark cause you will prob see the spark light up

My buddies 2004.5 also does this. His original lift pump failed and he got the in-tank one installed under warranty, but still sounds like the lift pump working up forward. One of these days I am going to check and see if the old pump is still there, but disconnected.

If you look at your dash you'll see a coil symbol illuminated while you hear the ticking. Once the ticking stops you'll see that symbol go off. Then you start your truck. I never wait as its not cold around here.

It is the injectors. It's part of the test procedure of the ECM. It just fires off the injector solenoids. It's totally normal... no worries.
