what goerend torque converter is right for me

Ok guys ive been reading a lot on here lately and have had a hard time getting ahold of Dave Goerend so i was wondering what torque converter i need?

I want between 400-500 horse and do not tow that often maybe 2 times a year 8000 lbs nothing real heavy. I want a faster truck with firmer shifts but dont know what tc to get. 900/400 or the 15 blade left cut? these are the only options i have seen on here that guys have talked about

thanks

Suggest you call Dave and ask him. He is more than willing to discuss your options. Make a chart of how you use your truck and add percentage to that...
Unloaded on freeway 15%
Unloaded in town light traffic 40%
Unloaded in town heavy traffic 5%
Loaded towing 10K 15%

Etc. Etc.Etc.

Dave is truly a customers delight, great product and great customer service.

I have the 900/400 and love it. IIRC it is a little tighter than the 15 left cut. You really need to let Dave answer this question for you. Just make sure you are honest with yourself on the horsepower you want or might want because if you set it up for 400hp and then you go to 500hp the performance of the converter will change.

What truck is it for? Also, what turbo are you wanting to run? Injectors?

15 Blade left cut is a tight converter. Great for a stock turbo and a programmer (nice for towing a lot). If you are doing a turbo and injectors, i would do a 15 blade stock stall (tighter than stock). I think is is probably one of the nicer converters that Dave makes.

If you can't get a hold of Dave, ask for some of his large distributors, builders, and installers. They are always ready to help in any way.

Well, you are wrong about the 15 blade left cut. It is a lose converter for folks with somewhat laggy turbos so they can get up on boost. Ask me how I know..... I have one. It is a tighter converter and 10 times better than the stock piece of junk. If you compair it to a DTT converter it is a little looser then there 89%. Call Dave first thing in the morning. Works like a charm.

The 15 blade left cut is one of Dave's tighter converters. The 15 blade stock stall is a little looser that the left cut. If you want looser, then you go with a 17 blade stock stall. Then he has even more to loosen up the converter.

It is harder to spool with a 15 blade left cut converter than it is to do with a 15 blade stock stall. This means the 15 blc is tighter than the 15 blade ss. You can ask Dave which one is looser and you might find that I am right on this one.

Higher stall is your friend when trying to spool a bigger turbo, or make one driveable on the street.

I would go with a 15 blade stock stall. I will be loose enough down the road. I've tried them all, v10/v10, v10/cummins, 17 blade, 17 blade left cut, 15 blade stock stall, 15 blade left cut, 15 blade back cut left cut, 17 blade 900/400, 17 blade 800/300, 10 blade dual stator. The one i would put in is 15 blade stock stall because its loose enough for 500 HP. 15 blade left cut is a little tight with 64mm turbo and larger. 15 blade is much more efficient than the 17 blade for daily driving. I use a v10-v10 in mine with a 76mm turbo.

The Dodge TC is sloppy for a good reason, it works for everything but is not great any anything. The most simple principle for the Type of TC efficiency = Heat, So if you are towing in stop and go traffic with a 93% TC it will generate heat quickly,in the dead heat of summer its easy to produce 225*+ in heavy traffic towing, on the other hand if most of your driving/towing is highway you may opt for the 93%/tight.I have a tight TC but I have also installed a manual fan engagement switch in the cab,I tow in city traffic often with 20k+, I can easily hit 220+ the switch will usually keep it in the 180 range. Talk to Dave he will fill in the details..thier is a wide range of setups and it is awesome when you get it right the 1st time..wisdom and experience cannot be over empathized.

I'm glad this issue came up and would like a few of your opinions. Per my signature, on my 95 my TC is stock still and getting tired. I tow alot in light around town traffic as well as on the highway. If my TC were new I would want something a little to somewhat tighter. I won't be going over 375 to 400 HP. Thanking you in advance !

I love my 15 blade left cut. I think it is perfect with my 62/71/13ss. Towing it is spot on unlocked.

another trick for helping spool witha tight converter is adjusting the tv cable, lets the engine build rpm instead of shifting early and dropping the turbo on its face.
