good fuel supply, ladder bars if needed to get power to ground, good flowing exhaust if not turbo to keep egt's down.
i'm no expert though, i'm still learning.

A fully built transmission (5-8K depending on who you go with), a fuel system(400-500 bucks), a after market turbo (1400-2000 bucks) because it will get to 1200 right after you punch it, guages to monitor all that(500 or so), Studs depending on how big of a turbo you get(600 or so), exhuast(which you already have) and intake(which you already have). You dont need traction bars really, Ive ran low 12's without them....adds up pretty quick huh?

outofsight, actually im used to it adding up pretty quick. thats why i asked what mods i would need instead of how much it would cost. a fully built goerend trans is already in the works, thats why i specified "other than trans upgrades" but thanks for the input.

skynard, thanks for the offer, it is much appreciated but i already get parts at cost and have a full shop w/ lifts and dynojet where i do all of my own work. thanks again though, that is very nice of you to offer.

so is level 9 completely unusable w/ stock turbo and fuel system? i was hoping to run it this way w/ a built trans through the winter until i start w/ the rest of the mods next season. what about level 7 ?

if your planning on running it at the track or even for just around town i would suggest a tranny lockup controller. for track i would suggest a 66 but it won't be that good for around town. i would suggest a 62 and going with that as a top turbo in a twins setup. a tst r 49 with rail pressure is a good stack with the smarty.

only thing i'm missing is the turbos and a cam i already have the smarty/tst, studs, HTS fully billet tranny and 392.

It kinda depends which software you want to use, the newest software's are pretty low on EGTs, but lvl 7 and 9 will still need a turbo and fuel upgrade. Now if you want to run one of the Beta programs you are definitely looking at a turbo and fuel system. My truck would drop fuel pressure below 3psi on sw3 original software before the FASS. The 4k rpm software will require springs and it would be best to throw in a cam.

All I am saying is either way to have no worries, a turbo(62+) and fuel system will be needed, anything else will be hot and starving. At least you have the tranny covered, everything else is downhill..... sometimes

I run the beta 4.4 on level 7/9 with stock turbo and fuel pump.....i can / do hit 0 on the fp so will be getting a fuel pump....as far as egt's, you have to really be thrashing to get it to dangerous levels 1450*+...would guess at the track you'd need a turbo....but for street rodding, i havent really needed one to control the egt's

Everyone keeps telling me that ill need a clutch as soon as i get a smarty on my truck. 10,000km and still not slipping. What the heck is wrong with my truck, or is the smarty just not makin the power it should. I have it on SW9 and my EZ on 50. And still no slip.

But on the topic, good fuel supply, turbo, intake and exhaust. Thats about it.

Yes, you should be able to. You can run the higher ones as well, you simply have to be conservative in your driving and understand that you may not be able to fully realize the higher power until you get the supporting mods.

The 03s dont make as much power as the 04.5+ and I think the 03 clutchs are alot stronger than the newer ones also. I know a guy that had a TST, Smarty sw9, and MP8 that would not slip the stock clutch.
