Water injection

I am looking to cool my truck down alittle when towing and at WOT in the 1/4 mile. Everyone says water Im just alittle nervous injecting water into my motor. What would be the best kit for me I dont need a fancy controler or any of that I just want it to come on at a certain EGT or Boost #. I heard you can drill and tap your washer fluid resivor so I guess I wouldnt need a tank. Also do I run washer fluid or just straight water. Let me knwo what you guys think would be the best for me. Thanks.

I have a Snow water injection kit Stage 2 that was installed with the washer bottle as the source. You will get about 200 degress cooler or so. Tim in VA installed it for me and told me no matter how you set it up do not run washer fluid with twins and also do not set the controller up to start spraying with less than 15 PSI. I love mine and towing a full load I have to really work to get it over 1100 degrees with the water turned on.

It can go in various places. One of the most common locations, is to install the nozzles in the air horn. On my 1996 Dodge CTD, I have the nozzles "machined" right into the cylinder head, much like you would set-up a "wet" nitrous system on a gas car. Also, I have seen some guys put the nozzles into the air intake also.

Hope this helps you some.

clndesl:

When I had my early Snow Kit, I set mine to come on at 20lbs. of boost.
You will have to experiment with that as I have found that each truck seems to react differently.

Like Robert said,.....I am running 100% distilled water in my 1996 too. Robert and myself are kind of the "old veteran water injection guys on DTR!"[laugh]

Both of us experienced "detonation" in our engines with the methanol/water mixture. I got the "detonation" with as little as 15% methanol! "Detonation" sounds alot like "spark ping" that gas engines have. Believe me,...if you get it, you WILL KNOW IT!:o And it is VERY HARD on the internal parts. We also run a water pump/anti-rust lubricant in our water systems. This stuff keeps the water pump lubricated and prevents rust from forming in the cylinder head. NAPA Auto Parts Stores have their own brand called "Number 13" and "Bars Leak" also sells some which is what I have been using. Some guys will tell you that rust will not form in your engine, but I certainly got it inside my cylinder head when I was NOT running it.
