Want to go back to 4 inch exhaust.

Hey guys. I searched for an answer, but I couldnt find an answer to my question. I'm looking for a 4 inch exhaust with the least amount of drone. 5 inch has been cool. And I only bought it cause I was set on going with twins. After driving a service truck all week that is loaded and has a c7 cat in it. My truck feels like a rocket and I'm happy with the power levels and the mods done. I'm considering the aeroturbine 4 inch. But want some reviews on it. Can anyone help me out with what exhaust theyre running and how quiet it is in cab? Thanks alot.

Kyle

I've had a 4" aeroturbine resonated muffler with no cat and no stock resonator (all straight pipe). It's a bit agressive sounding outside the truck. But by no means do I notice a drone in the cab. You can hear the exhaust, but I've never been irriated by it or has it been commented on by people in the truck.

If your going for as quiet as possible, I'd get a Corsa or Hushpower muffler - leaning toward the Corsa.

rollin smoke diesel has a 5 in exhaust with a muffler for 329.00 NIB. A buddy of mine had one on his truck and the drone was way less than my 4" with no muffler. I am wanting to go to one when I get the money, plus it has no cat and it's aluminized I don't know if that's a concern. You could get a hushpower muffler they work great and they really don't affect performance but man are they quiet.

hushpower

The hushpower muffler is good and quiet for about the first 5 thousand miles then it gets more aggresive not so much in the cab but outside

I've got a Corsa exhaust and really like it. Its not very loud outside and inside you can't tell too much of a difference over stock, there is no drone!

The muffler is straight through, no perforations, with a couple of 1" wide slots in either end. The slots lead to a maze that cancels out drone.

I didn't know it at the time but you can buy just the muffler and fit it to your stock exhaust if you have it. I got the cat back version, it fit great and exits at the stock location.

The only thing I didn't like about it was the odd oval shaped exhaust tip. I didn't use it and instead put an mbrp tip on.

I've got some videos on youtube, just search Cummins Corsa and they should be the top few results.

I had the stock exhaust with a 4040xl Aero Turbine and cat and I would get almost run off the road by people wanting to know what exhaust system I had. I tried it without the cat and it was just to loud to my wife and neighbors. Unfortunately I was doing some off road and got stuck in a wash in Arizona and by the time I got out i had destroyed my entire exhaust system. I purchased a magnaflow 5" turbo back system but it never came close to sounding as good as the 4040xl with cat setup. I heard lately that Aero Turbine might be going out of business (may not be true) so I bought a 5050xl for my truck. I replaced the magnaflow muffler with the 5050xl and it definately sounded better but still kinda loud. I took that four inch cat and cut the ends off to perfectly fit 5" pipe. I then removed a section of the magnaflow 5" exhaust pipe and cut and welded it to the cat. It actually took me less than a hour and looked good. Put everything back together and my 5" system may actually sound better than the 4" 4040xl with cat. Either way you can't lose and have one of the best non droning exhaust sytems out there. Good Luck, Tom J.

I have a 4" MBRP and love the tone. Very little drone inside the cab either. I have always been very picky about my exhaust note, and couldn't be happier with my current setup.

Spend about $80 get a donaldson 51" muffler for the 5" and put it in and call it good. Really nice sound, no drone on mine at all. Have had it for 20k miles, been really really pleased. I also looked at pullin my 5" off and going to a 4, but since I found that muffler, noo way!

I've got a 4040xl on the stock system as well. Tone is deeper than stock. In the cab is a little louder but not a drone/headache. I'll try to get a video today. Sorry no stock sound to compare.

Thanks a lot guys. I really like the tone of the 5 inch. It has an MBRP muffler in it as well. But the in cab tone and drone is whats killing me. i"ll look into the donaldson for sure. And the aero as well. Thanks again guys.

I too went with a 4 in Donaldson and love it. Straight thru design, 4 or 5 inch, 50 +/- inches long and cheap!

Go ahead and put a 5 in donaldson on and see how much you like it before you spend all that money on a whole new 4 in exhaust system.

Jordan5687 03-13-2010 01:06 PM

Yup, that's the best! Take away that tone and drone in the cab. On a chart that has tested dif mufflers for airflow, the only thing greater in flow other than the donaldson muffler is a straight pipe.

Only reason I was looking at a 4" and get rid of the 5" is for an exhaust dump, then I finally found one in a 5"!

Sorry about the sideways camera. I wanted to pretend my truck was a rocket ship.

There is more then one 51” donaldson’s so you might want to look at this old thread. It gives some part #’s and results.
