Man I have a silver 62 and love the thing. had a 64 hated it but the 62 is great! I rolled across the scales yesterday at 23,160lbs 90deg outside ran 100 miles at 70 - 80mph very little smoke 1000 to 1200 egt temps. I would agree with silver spd that injectors would help spool up alot. Change your exhaust housing to a 12 will help but learning how to drive that 62 will probably help the most. Not trying to break your chops but ya cant drive it like its a stock truck or a gasser...
Good luck,
Topper

I have stock injectors, no lag with my current setup of twins. I do have plans to increase my injectors but it will only be 50-75's.

Ok but your missing the point...

He's got a 71mm turbine, you have a 65mm
He's got an automatic, you've got a manual
He's got 37's, you've got 315's

A manual can spool a larger turbo without lag b/c you can select what rpm you need to be at. Thus a set of larger injectors would HELP this guy out a ton. As far as your truck a 62/71 would be a better upgrade even with towing but only in a compound setup. As a single the 65 would be better. If he didn't go with injectors the next step would be a cam but that would be 3x the money b/c of labor then he'd need pushrods and valve springs to make it right.

Yes, I did recognize the differences between his truck and mine, my comments were based more in the direction of his needs. I have a friend with a 2006/manual/35" tires - truck like I have - he has the 62/71 secondary on his compounds, I drove his truck before I made my decision about what I wanted to run on my truck. I drove another friends truck, same setup as mine with the 62/65/12~S475, I like it's performance over the other truck, that's why I choose what I did for myself.

I keep my boost turned down some, it's at 45 total rather than running it at 60-something like many other do. I really do not need bigger injectors, plenty of fuel to go the way I am. If I do injectors I will do studs at the same time. I am not seeking big hp per se, just lower egt's and good mannered truck with as little headaches as possible for DD.

I will not have labor expenses outside of maybe a machine shop for stuff, I do all my own wrenching.

Ok but his main concern is turbo lag. What causes turbo lag is lack of fuel plus 37's and I'm prolly sure he's got 3.73 gears. A little more fuel can go along way. Yes he needs bigger injectors, if his tranny was a stick then he wouldn't mention turbo lag. As far as wrenching i'd tried to save as much money as possible on labor myself but I work 10-12hr days and have a side business towing diesel generators 8k-16k lbs. So my time and truck can't sit idle or I'm out of a job haha.

Thanks for all the advice, I guess maybe I made a bad decision on that particular turbo for my set up. I'm trying to steer clear of injectors because this thing already smokes like a freight train. Also Im seeing around 37 psi boost is that normal for this turbo. Is there anything else that will increase boost to help spool this turbo.

37lbs is about right being that you don't have much fuel goin to the turbo. If you don't plan on getn 90's you should get your turbine dropped to 65mm and exhaust housing changed to 12cm2. That's the only way you'll benefit. The tires, and lack of fuel is what's the problem or you can listen others... Good luck with it.
