Turbo removal
Turbo removal
It has been forever since I took my turbo off and I have my new one. I can't get to the bolt that is towards the back of the truck next to the block. Anyone have any ancient CTD secrets I am forgetting?

Mucho easier to take off the whole manifold. Just be sure to take off the oil drain line and not tear it up like I did
You could also just loosen all the manifold bolts so the manifold will move around some. That should give you a bit more clearance to get to that back nut. When I did the turbo swap on my current truck I tried this and after four hours of messing with it I just gave up and pulled the manifold off. It was so much easier that way. As far as the gaskets, they can be reused a couple times. If you chose to buy new ones be prepared for a shock if you go to your Dodge dealer. Genos sells them pretty cheap...

I don't buy any parts or accessories from Dodge! I am going to finish pulling the manifold tomorrow. I decided to be difficult and take the old turbo off and when I tried to put the new one on & I was having trouble & I figure I would go ahead & pull it off. I got 5 bolts off the top of the manifold & the bulb in my drop light went out! Oh well, I will use my air tools to take the rest off & get it stitched up & get the ol' torque wrench out! I am hoping to be done around 2:00 pm tomorrow, but I won't cross my fingers!
Crap! I just read that I should have put the oil drain line on before I installed the turbo!
Oh well, live and learn. I am going to hopefully be done soon! I want to see how she does.

I didn't do mine either.. Actually I found it fairly easy to remove the plastic fender wheel well and install after the turbo was mounted. Make sure that oil line points straight down as much as possible to prevent the gasket from leaking.
I put the drain line on before hanging the turbo, slid it into it's hole, then did a turbo bolt to hold it in place. I have small hands, squeezed in from the top and started the bolt, then from below on the ground I tightened it up, couple extensions and such reached it fine.
