turbo decision
trying to decide between just a regular 62/14 and one of the 71 series 62/14's.
is the low drive presure wheel that big of an advantage? or does it make it lagy at low boost. ?
mods are listed im my sig. clutch will be coming @ same time.
future mods: injectors?, snow stage 2?, and of course some sort of pusher pump.
useage: mostly dayly driving, 70/30 stop&go/hwy. i currently dont tow, but plans are for a boat, and a trilor to tow the jeep. so nothing real heavy by most of you alls standards.
or if some one else has sugestions post up.

I've had a 71 series 62/14 for a couple of months now and i couldn't be happier with it.Spools pretty good and egts are almost a non-issue. I love a big turbo for tailgaters, can you say smoke screen.
I will probably get flamed for this
but
its the truth
the 62/14 is ok for light to medium towing
even great for romp'n around empty and making high rpm HP
but
is
ABSOLUTELY WORTHLESS FOR HEAVY TOWING
it doesnt have enough spool at or below 2000 rpm
my stocker will tow heavier loads at lower egt's and get better fuel mileage, just cant romp on it too hard

Thats the ticket there!!!
My SPS62 has no troubles spooling hauling around my 12,000+ lbs 5'ver. No egt problems if i watch what i do and still get good mileage!!!

in overdrive at 60 mph, just maintaining speed the exhaust temps sit at 1250 - stock turbo under same condition sits at 950 degrees
theres just not enough drive pressure at low speeds to give enough boost to keep it cool
wound out tight , high rpms , cools great but money out the tail pipe

i have a gut feeling spooling up shuldnt be a problem...
flat ground, rollin in to it today from about 1k.. by 1200rpm i was making almost 20 lbs on the stock turbo, then the clutch let loose.. oops.
dam i love this beta smarty!
