Turbo for an 03
I've really liked my Aurora 2000 for quicker than stock spooling and low egt but it's not big enough anymore. I had too much fun with my new PMCR today and popped the A2K shaft. I just talked to ATS and the guy I talked to wasn't much of a salesman. The only info I got out of him was what I could think of to ask about and I'm not really up on turbos enough to talk very intelligently about them. He said the A3K is a .9 AR and good for 525hp max and it won't spool quite as fast as stock or the A2K. What is a good towing/street turbo with quick spooling and will bolt up in place as the oem? 500 max hp. Craig

Not sure how ATS sizes their chargers but my 62/65 spools great with very minimal lag. Cruising temps run about 700* at 70mph on flat ground with no head wind. I adjusted the WG to 35 psi so I wouldn't mess up the head gasket. Screams at higher rpm's. I love it and for what I paid for it it's awesome.

I've been calling around and every person I've talked to recommends the phatshaft 62/80/14. I'm not sure which dimension the 80 is for - I forgot to ask. The super phatshaft would be a little slower spooling and it's probably more turbo than I need. Nobody cares much for ATS turbos. Now, I'm checking into BD turbos. Keep the comments coming. TIA! Winner winner chicken dinner!
Some like the AK3 from ATS
The industrial I believe is a 62/74/14 or .80 on the AR. I believe don't quote me on the size, but the problem with the 74 wheel is it likes a lot of fuel and rpm to spool, not the best for your situation.
Maybe a 62/65- 12 or 13 from HTT, or my opinion call E.D./Fleece or Forced inductions and have them build a unit for your needs.

Yeh, I've read that about the super b special. I need to talk to Ind Inj some more. I've been on the thoroughbred diesel site and the htb2 also looks good. It looks like it's coming down to the Ind Inj PS 62 or the HTB2 62. I need to decide on 12 or 14 on whichever one I get. I don't know if I can compare a Holset 14 with any other 14 but I sure liked the 14 on my 97 215 with a PDR 35/40. I wonder if Piers or Joe Donnelly are still around. Craig

You need a Garrett, can't remember the size right off the top of my head. Do a search. Don't get the phatshaft, period. You will hate the lag.
This is what you need.

Unless you have significant fueling mods I'd stay away from the larger chargers like the Super Phatshafts and the likes. A 74 exhaust wheel is probably gonna be your limit....probably even exceeding your limit.

Good for Piers! Well, I've been hit with a lot of bills lately and the Phatshaft 62/65/14 was the cheapest, so I got it. I will never go past it's limits. Yeh, I saw the super Phatshaft, silver bullet, super B special etc. were way too big. This PS is about 2mm bigger on both pinwheels than the A2K. The A2k spun up instantly and I knew anything bigger would have lag but it's not as bad as I expected. Overall I like how it performs. One thing for sure, tho... I wouldn't have bought it if I had known what a royal son of a *&%^! it was going to be to put on! EVERY step of the install has to be done in a certain order cuz it's such a tight fit. Physically, it's a bad choice for my HO 305.The WG actuator is big and it's in the way of everything. It points straight down and it's only ~1/2" above the motor mount so the engine-side front manifold stud had to be swapped for a bolt which was very tough to get in, afterwords. I had to bolt the oil drain tube onto the turbo before installing the turbo cuz the center section had to be clocked so the drain tube was up against the WG actuator and it would be impossible to put the drain tube on after the turbo was mounted. Then I had to change the clock position of the compressor housing and one of the housing bolts was up against the actuator so I had to put compressed air to the actuator and loosen it before I could get a wrench on that last housing bolt. I hope I never have to mess with this turbo again! Craig
