Trouble keeping my goat running
 

I have a 2006 dodge 5.9 3500 srw 2 wheel drive that has new 90hp injectors, an Air dog 100 lift pump. I am having a crank no start issue with the truck i removed the fuel control actuator from the cp3 and sprayed the ports with wd-40 reinstalled the fca and truck started and idled for 10 to 15 minutes Died and wouldnt start, i replaced the fca with a new one Truck started idled for 10 to 15 minutes again died wouldnt start again. I removed the new fca sprayed the ports with the wd-40 and Put it back on, the truck started and idled 10 to 15 minutes again and died. Is this telling me i received a defective fca or that i have other issues such as fuel pressure sensor, frv, or cp3 issues? any help and info would be greatly appreciated

Did your issues begin right after the installation of these parts or have they successfully run for awhile? How many miles on these parts?


WD40 is a Water Displacement spray, thus the WD. If you intended to lubricate your FCA, a light oil would have been more appropriate.

After the engine died, did you check your fuel filter canister to see if there was any fuel present? If not, do that next time. This would help rule out a failing lift pump. Since you didn't mention pre CP3 fuel pressure, I'm guessing you don't have a gauge for that. Consider installing one, but looking in the fuel filter canister just after the truck dies will tell you if your LP is still working. If your LP was working, the canister should be full.


I doubt you received a defective FCA, but not unheard of.

My LP is a new air dog with no milage, same with my fca, i have primed the system and bled the air from system to best of my knowledge. When it starts and idles after the wd-40 its smooth and sounds normal but acts as if it runs out of fuel, or as if it shuts off and is a crank no start unless i wd-40 the fca

Yes sir both canisters were full of fuel, and have fuel all the way to the injectors. I have been trying to find info on testing the fuel rail pressure sensor with a volt meter to see if its good or bad so i know what step to take next but no luck so far.

im am currently waiting on my block off tool to single out injectors

I would reinstall the injector tubes and be really careful with the torque specs.

I don't know how you tested this but if you cracked the lines while someone was cranking the engine, it can be pretty dangerous. Diesel at 20k#+ can easily be injected into a finger or hand. It can kill you.

yea 20k plus isnt good to play with in confined areas i have the block off tool for the rail to prevent self injury

In response to my thread, i would like to thank everyone for the help and information. After installing a new cp3 pump on my dodge and checking injectors for high fuel return i found that #5 cylinder had high return, which turned out to be a loose connector tube hold down nut. After torquing and rechecking ( for the fourth time, lol ) all the parts that has been installed the truck has been running great. Now on to the search of a 4 inch turbo back exhaust, tuner, and air intake system, ( to remove the poorly fabricated factory set up that was on the truck when puchased)
