toyo open country mts vs. Nitto Mud Grapplers

Ok, i orig wanted the Toyo Open Country MTs but i was told they were on a 2 mo. back order so i was forced to go with the Nitto Mud Grappler. Well i got a call today and they said that the Toyos came in with my name on them. I have had the Nittos for a few weeks sitting at my apt waiting to go on. They said i could bring them back and get the Toyos if i wanted and it would be a 200 dollar difference that i owed them. Just wanted to hear some personal prefrences...Mud Grappler or Toyo Open Country MTs in 35X12.50X20. Which one is louder/quieter...longer/shorter tread life etc..thanks, Jason

I have experience with both on my H2 and here is what I know...

First, when it come to traction in mud, sand, snow, etc. absolutely NO highway-usable tire can touch the Mud Grappler. The downside is the noise. They sound like you have a small cessna plane on your roofrack. Now I ran a 38x15.50 so there was more contact patch and more noise.

The Toyo's are nice and quiet but of course sacrifice off-road performance. Let the balance of how much traction you need be your guide.

If you are going to need ultimate traction more than about 40% of the time, the Nitto are worth every penny. If not, then the Toyo's quietness will be nice for you. I didn't mind the noise, and our trucks are quieter than the H2 was so it might not be soo bad. I would have kept putting the Nitto on my H2 had I not sold it for my mega.

Off-road=Nitto
Highway=Toyo

Both tires are great so you won't be dissapointed with either!

I just put down the coin for a set of Toyo MTs in 37x13.50R17E - I like their specs and reputation.

Like I said the Toyos are a GREAT tire and definitely the way to go for those who want the aggressive look, but don't need the performance. The Nittos are for those who live in snowy areas or like to go on sand or off-road big time. You will be very happy with the Toyos!

ahh i really dunno...im gona have to sit them side by side tomorrow and decide..i really dont want to spend any more money but like D.Wiggs said, i also dont want it to so sound like i have a cessna strapped to the top of my truck...now the tread on the Nittos has grown on my cause it is so aggressive but i still like the Toyos a lot too...lol ill figure it out tomorrow. If im lucky my other wheel might be in and i can have them on for the meet...as for the other toy...im still playing but i like it a lot so far..ill get more seat time tomorrow with it...only put 5 miles on it so far..

Wiggs is 100% on with his analogy... that is exactly what the Mud Grapplers sound like! Lightman has them on his truck and man are they loud!!! It almost sounds like you are constantly driving over rumble strips before a sharp turn or steep down grade.
