Towing with JR
Why wouldn't you be able to?
How heavy are you towing to see 8.3 MPGs?
I just towed my dad's deep-v 22' Lake Michigan boat with my JR set on the 100 HP setting without any issues or high trans temps..........
It varies from 6k through 15k. 90% of the time it is about 6k, and this last tank didn't see towing of any more than about 8k, and maybe only 30 miles of that. Lots of stop and go, and I know the Toyo's don't help, but it seems to be getting worse. Truck does not have any other issues. No wierd noises, no smoke color change, no missing, etc...
I tow a 4000 lb boat almost every weekend and the truck does just fine. I also tow a 6500 lb travel trailer every now and then, again the truck does just fine, but I don't go hammering it off the line while in tow. I just ease into it, seems to work very well. Also EGT's are fine too, truck has only seen 1200 degrees once while towing and that was because it was lugging a little, otherwise I just take my time getting up to speed. Just got to be smart when driving especially because my trans is all stock. Hope this helps.
Your mileage will be better on the tow setting than the mileage setting. The 40hp setting is meant for a non loaded truck, you can tow but I would not tow over 5K IMO. I have found that the 70hp setting is the best for all around as far as mileage goes, I have mine set on that tune for the majority of the time and it gives the best mileage by far.
