Torque Converter Issue?

Hey guys. Im in need of a little help here.

I started having a little tranny trouble recently. I 'm having the govener pressure solenoid issues, it likes to start out in 2nd or 3rd gear. Anyways, that isn't my main concern. Driving home last night im going down the road. About 5 miles from my house, going 55mph when the TC usually unlocks and the RPMS drop down. I got to 55mph the TC unlocked and I heard a bang, it then kicked back out like it was locked and it will not unlock now. My tranny temp shot to 190- 200*, I was on the freeway by then and I was going 70mph, RPM's were 2500-2700, it just seems like it wont kick down.

Any idea what this could be? Was trying to hold out for a tranny after Christmas time, looks like Christmas might come early this year.

What do you mean it won't unlock? If it doesn't unlock it will kill the engine and time you hit the brakes hard enough.

Does it work correctly starting from a dead stop and shift OK?

Sounds more like it is not locking up. 2500 to 2700 rpm at 70 the torque converter can't be locked.

Yes, it wouldn't lock up.

But I have a bigger issue now. Took it for a drive yesterday to see if was still acting up. Got a mile from my house, and the tranny blew. I was doing about 30mph, barely on the pedal and I heard a boom, followed by a nasty grinding noise. I have no drive, engine just revs. When it's in drive or neutral I can hear something banging around in there.

Any ideas as to what let loose? Guess it's time to load it on the flat bed and haul it down to Iowa.

Check flex plate. Sounds like you might have ripped it to pieces and its banging around in there.
