Luken...any time the rail is ramped up quicker...you have a net timing increase that is unmeasurable unless you are a scientist! I have mentioned this many times in many posts. If Marco says no timing...he means he did not change when the injector open from stock. The length and what pressure the fuel is squirted in there is changed...the only other parameters left to make more power. If the power out put and timing are held constant, rail is ramped up...duration is shortened slightly and there is a net timing increase...more fuel sooner. I guess it is hard to explain, but it also prevelant sometimes when somebody uses injectors (especially EH), a TST, and a MP-8. Without the MP-8...the may have had no excess timing issues..noises etc. Then they stack the MP-8...which has no direct timing control...and BAM...clatter and timing issues! Turn that TST timing back and then let it rip...and WOW!

Still buzzing? Note that the ECM is bolted to the side of the block below the intake horn. A buzz on the first key turn is likely something electrical. I would examine that before doing any more flashing.

JCLeary,

I couldn’t have said it better myself. I have had the Smarty since it was first released and have had no issues. My truck runs great. I have kept up with each and every update Marco releases and I update my Smarty and truck accordingly. With each and every update the Smarty had only gotten better. I’m still curious about the timing issues, because I have no timing rattle at all. Everyday driving I’m running v202B, SW 3.

When you turn the key on for the first time it buzzes continiously. If you turn the key off then back on it doesn't do it.

Let it set for 20 seconds or so, turn the key on and it stays on again.

Would I be able to put my hand on the ECM and feel if it is buzzing?

Same exact thing happend to me but only once! I un-installed the Smarty from my 04 to haul my pulling truck to a pull and i was in limp mode and the ABS and BRAKE light were on.. I just turned the key off for about 5 mins started up and off we went havent had a problem since? and i have loaded and unloaded alot since this happened It seems to me like most of the problems are with the AUTOMATIC trucks?? Mines a 6-Speed and im not getting a timing knock except when cold but nothing severe unless u punch it when cold??

It's below the grid heater... The light on dash goes off and you can hear it go off (like normal)

It's below the intake horn.

What type of buzz is it? If there is a way to describe it.

Isolate the sound to figure out where it is coming from. Not sure if you will be able to feel the buzz, but it shouldn't be too hard to figure out the origin if it's that loud. Does the sound run on forever if you leave the key on, or does it stop (like after 20-25 seconds?)

Let me think....

Sort of like a bumble bee, if you can imagine. High pitch to low pitch to high pitch...etc.

It changes tone ALOT.

---------------------

Kind of like a sump pump that is out of water... ya know how it changes tone alot. But with more of a buzz.

banshee,

I just went out and tried it again. It buzzes until I bump the starter then it will quit. If I take the key out and turn it back on it starts buzzing again...

According to the FSM, the grid heaters will only turn on if the temp is below 66 degrees. From 30 to 66 degrees it should only cycle for 10 seconds. Does the buzz last longer than that?
