Thuren Track Bar = $$ well spent!!
I am pretty new to owning a 3rd gen (used to have a 2001) so I was already impressed with the way a stock 3rd gen drives with 100k miles. However, I had a Thuren 3rd gen track bar laying around that I never installed in my old truck...... so I installed it last night.
The install took 10 minutes and most of that was finding the right tools. I took it for a drive and couldn't believe the difference! Now there is absolutely no play in the steering wheel. The steering is so responsive now. There is no wander now and I am running 315/70/17's. Needless to say, I am very happy with it and recommend it to everybody that doesn't have one yet. I'll post some pics later to show the difference between it and the stock one. I also installed one it my dad's 99 last night with impressive results. It was very worn out so the difference was insane. |
Can't beat Don's attention to detail, design and customer service.

here's some pics. I adjusted it about 1/4 inch longer than stock to make up for the leveling kit

Glad you like it. Don makes an awesome product and is an excellent guy to deal with.
I believe that with a leveling kit your trackbar should be set at 39 1/8". Anything longer and you'll hit the trackbar bracket on the coil bucket when fully compressed. |

Don make very nice parts. The only thing that keeps me from buying one is the heim joint. I don't know if it is a problem with either the type he uses or not, but the Jeep stuff I have used in the past had play in a few thousand miles. The point of "Upgrading" parts is to increase service life.
Maybe someone can comment with their experience on the life expectancy of these joints? |
Mines tight as can be after 70k and about 40k of that on dirt/gravel roads and two tracks. I like to run hard too.

i think those heims are teflon lined. i've had mine on for three years now and its still tight. the amount of "play" a heim will develope is minimal compared to the bushings in a factory bar. the only downside of the heim i see is that IF it ever develops any play, they tend to clunk or rattle more than a rubber bushing. but if that ever happens don is such a good guy he will probably send you a new heim on the house and you can swap em out in 5 min. this track bar is the way to go.

He is a great guy and will not try to sell you stuff you dont need, and I agree this things realy makes a difference. It was very noticable on my truck.
