Is there any exhaust that sounds good on a 3rd Gen?

Is there any exhaust that sounds good on a 3rd Gen?

My buddy has an 06 Cummins.

We just gutted the goofy stock intake(removed baffles) and took out the silencer ring. Sounds a little better.

He is having a hard time deciding what exhaust to go with. I have definitely heard some and they sound terrible. Some seem better then others. They sound really goofy off the bottom and then sound ok rapped out.

Is there anything out there that sounds good, like a 2nd Gen? He was kinda thinkin about trying Aeroturbine. He likes it loud so that is not an issue. Hates how some of them sound though. Loves how mine sounds though.

We were thinkin just cut out the cat and muffler, replace with new muffler and piece of pipe. Since its 4", whats the point of changing the whole system, unless you go to 5".

Also, anyone heard Flowmaster or Flo Pro? The resonance sounds goofy, so maybe a chambered muffler would be better?

Any takeoff sound clips would be awesome.

Opinions?

I like the sound of my 03 straightpiped. I have tried both 4" & 5" straightpiped & with mufflers and I have to say that I always resort back to either the 4 or 5" straightpipe.

I am currently running 5" straight and wow....it sure sounds good 2 me

4" is loud and has a crisp bark to it while the 5" is loud but way deeper in sound

Speaking of the Flo-Pro......a buddy of mine has the 4" Flo-Pro system on his truck with a 6" tip and I have to say that it does sound pretty good. It's almost as loud as my 4" straightpipe system.

I agree, theres no point in replacing the whole system. It's already 4". If he likes it loud I would try a straight pipe first. Its cheap and easy. Some like it and some don't. I didn't but after I put the stacks on it gave it a good deep tone. It's a little on the loud side now.

GlennRMK,

I attend several diesel events every year and everyone wants to know what exhaust I'm running. Aero turbine.

The only other one I've personally heard and liked was a Donaldson.

Just get what 5" you think looks good and make sure that you install a 5" full flow resonator and muffler.
Makes all the difference in the world.
