Temperature fluctuations

My 2006 RAM 2500 4X4 has a new issue. When idling the temperature gage does not achieve normal termperature. When highway driving it reached 215 degrees as normal. If I stop the truck and let it idle, the temperature drops almost to cold condition. What is wrong?

It's my pot and I'll stir it if I want to. If you're not careful, I'll stir your's as well!

My initial suspicion is that the thermostat has died, perhaps in the open position. Does it take a longer time than normal to reach operating temperature?

Then that in my opinion pretty well confirms a bad 'stat. Install a new one and let us know if that solved the problem.
