Straight Pipe!
I am thinking of straight piping the truck. I know that there may be strings on this issue, but I was unable to find them. My question is how loud does it get? I love the straight piped sound and I don't mind the loudness but, I don't want to get a ticket for noise pollution like those kids in 'ricers' get:D . Should I worry?

I've driven by lots of cops with their windows down and haven't yet been pulled over for it. I'd say do it. Sounds bad A$$.

Do it...I did it on my 03 and it wasn't that loud. I think that the older Rams (pre-2003) models are much louder when straight piped.
It sounds good, but I had a little drone on mine. I didn't mind, but it might get on your nerves. |
Well you convinced me. At 4 o'clock this afternoon I'm gettin it done. Can't wait.

come on, report in man

YYYEEEEEEAAAAAHHHHHH BABY!!!!!. And why haven't I done it earlier? A 4 inch full exhaust is in the wotrks, but I will definatly not have a muffler. It just sounds too cool.
However, there is a but. I live in Eastern Canada and diesel truck here a re few and far between so even though I could get a 4 inch pipe the nearest machine to bend it was 4 hours away, so I went to the local Mack dealership and boufgt 4 feet of big rig flex pipe and used it. I hope it will last a couple of months so I can gat a proper pipe, but hey these trucks should come without a muffler from the show room floor, right. |
Thats awesome. I'm planning to put a sneaker series straight pipe on my 03 SO. So you went 4" all the way bacK? engine to tail? I'm only thinkin about doing it from the cat back (did you leave the cat on it?) to keep it simple. Keep us posted. Thanks.

Skip the 4" go straight to 5". I just ordered 3 45, one 30, one 90, and one 10 ft stick of 5" exhaust pipe from Donaldson and built it myself. I love the way it sounds and looks. I did put a resonator in and I only have a little drone at about 55 mph, but since I spend most of my cruising time @ 70, it doesn't matter. In the cab at anything above 65 it is just as quiet as stock, but rollin through the gears it sounds nice.

You know I can get 3 stick of 5 inch 10 feet each for about $25 canadian a piece. I have a MIG welder. I am just worried if I cut angles and then weld them will that be strong enough. as opposed to sliding a piece of pipe over top of another and clamping it.

Did you put your on after the cat or off of the engine?
|
Mine is an 03 so it doesn't have a CAT. Does anyone know where I can get a 4" downpie and will it bolt to the stock turbo elbow or do I need a 4" one as well?

Don't worry about it being too loud. I have passed many cops in my straight piped 02, they haven't pulled me over yet. Actually my little brother borrowed my truck one day and had a county cop next to him at a stop light tell him to stand on it when the light turned green. It seems like he loved the sound of my truck. You'll love the sound even more when you go under tunnels or bridges.:D
