Stock clutch issues...

hey guys...im having some issue latley with my clutch. i refused to replacde my clutch til the stock one went, well i think im gettin close. heres my problem...when i put the smarty jr on 100 hp and hit it when i go to shift my clutch pedal is hard as a rock. i have to stand on it a few times to get it to free up. it did it once crankin on 100, then it did it again just rollin on 100. now last night it did it just rollin on 75. also, the clutch never slipped yet. it holds fine...just the pedal locks up and cant push it in or shift a gear. anyone have any idea whats goin on in there?

Time for a new clutch, mine did something like that and would slip on the highway in 6th gear.
Some people say something like the disc welding itself to the flywheel or something...

yea..whatever it is i know it isnt good. i just dont know why it hasnt slipped yet... thats what throwing me off. im just trying to hold out as long as i can before i gotta put a clutch in... ill be regretting it when it does it again and dont free up then ill be stranded

Yeah it is the disc getting very hot from slipping a little and welding to the flywheel and pressure plate and you are trying to bust it loose when you are pushing the clutch in. I have done that before, I thought my clutch was not slipping until I put my DD in and the hole stock disc was blue.[duhhh]

thanx for the input guys...now what clutch do i need? my buddy has sb dd for pulling. i hate the pedal pressure and the jerkyness it has when u let it out. do they make a smoother dd? all i really need is a single. but eveyone seems to push the dd's

What kinda HP you think you'll get to one day?

I had 443, now (hopefully) 500 and my SB OFE has been great. It's under rated at 450 HP and I know a guy who ran 580 through his. I didn't want the noise or slow shifting of a DD. The OFe feels pretty much like stock and is only the slightest bit grabbier, still works well backing up the trailer etc.

If you're gonna race, do 3rd gear launches or sled pull maybe go for a 3250 DD.

i really have no plans on making much more power than i am now. im too cheap to spend the money...i dont race...i sled pull very very occasionally, im talkin like maybe 1 or 2 hooks a year, and thats just for fun not to win obviously. im probably leaning towards just a single disk

If you tow don't go for the FE, it holds more HP but is a grabby sucker.

MartinRdCustomz 09-08-2009 02:22 PM

ahh...well i tow way more than i pull... so maybe i should stick with the first one u said about.
