splines gone on my southbend DD ???
Pulled the clutch last night to find out where my growling nose was coming from. I new something was bad when the bellhousing had metal flake on it.
The clutch plate closest to the flywheel has no splines left at all and my input shaft now shows signs of excessive wear.
What would cause this? ??

I had one of the four finger pressure plates on my original DD. One if the fingers broke and I dropped the tranny. I don't remember if the clutch wouldn't engage or how I knew it was bad, but I dropped it and didn't think it was something I should be responsible for. I believe I talked to a Peter Pyfer at Southbend (this was 2010). He asked me to take pictures and measure the remaining friction material. I assume the photos were for a warm and fuzzy that it wasn't negligence on my part, and the measurement was so they could make the new part to match mine. But, they could have also been judging how much wear/mistreatment I had put on the clutch. In any case, they sent me their new model pressure plate with the friction material matched to mine, and they fronted the shipping. Give them a call and see what they say. If it is a result of your driving habits, you gotta pay to play. If it is a defect, they will know and they will work with you.
