Smarty TOUCH? ANybody using?

Hello;

I'm thinking about getting a tuner for my truck. I have been reading good things about the SMARTY products on this forum or some time.

I don't have any gauges for my truck yet, so I am considering the Smarty Touch to take care of all of it at once.

I have called the MADS/Smarty people 3 times and left messages and also emailed with no response yet (over the last week). I have some questions I want answered before I plunk down the $$$.

Anybody on here running this? Like it or not?

My truck: 2003 QC/SB, 4x4 auto, MRBP exhaust is only "performance" mod. Just rebuilt the trans with upgraded componets, 3.73 gears, leveling kit, 315/70/17 tires.

Can the Smarty touch do the following on my truck:
  • Boost pressure
  • EGT's
  • Trans Temp
  • Can I install a fuel pressure sensor and monitor fuel pressure between the filter and the injection pump?
  • High-idle control with cruise-control switch enable?
  • Fuel rail pressure
Additional information I'm looking for: can you disonnect the monitor quickly and easily? I'd like to remove it from plain view when parking the truck so it is not a tempting target for somebody to steal.

Thanks in advance for any and all replies.

Smarty Touch Installed

Matt,

i recently installed smarty touch on my 04.5 auto. I’ve been running it for about 690 miles now. I also replaced injectors with BBI stage 0.5, but chose the 143 degree 8-hole style that is OE for the 2003/2004 model year.

yes the touch has the ability to display all of the parameters you listed and many more. However for it to display/log EGT you need to purchase the $150 EGT kit.

The gauge layouts allow up to 6 parameters to be displayed at the same time. It’s data sampling rate for 6 parameters simultaneously is rather fast compared to any OBD II code reader. Average data sampling rate in my data logs are around 0.080 s per data point or ~12.5 Hz. This is fast enough to get good information on some, not all, transient events.

I have just begun to use some of the other features and am still learning.

i don’t think it has the ability to pipe in data from a fuel pressure sensor monitoring the lift pump pressure.

Does this answer your questions?

Eastment;

Thanks for the reply. Sorry for the extreme delay; but I was without the truck for awhile due to some legal issues with the title. I have the truck back and am rolling on...

I am curious to hear how you have your Smarty touch mounted? I would like to mount mine on an A-pillar gauge pod like this one: https://www.genosgarage.com/product/.../gauge-mounts1

But I have not been able to confirm or locate an adapter that will secure the Smarty Touch; or at least advertised as such. I can find them for other tuners, but nothing specifically marketed as this application for the Smarty Touch.

Another question: what happens if it gets disconnected while the engine is running? Do yo just lose gauges or can this cause harm to the trucks computers?

Thank you again for your reply.

I used that pillar mount, but you cannot mount screen right to the "guage area". If you do (I did make a mount for that initially)
when you rotate screen so it is kind of level, upper left corner hits pillar mount. It also is not out far enough to clear top edge of dash.

Ended up taking chance on this kit, which is really for Edge stuff.....

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AN5MZ2I/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AN5MZ2I/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

it moves screen back and towards pass side. Fits nice and mounts right up perfect.

One note, the part that mounts inside guage hole has 4 ears, 2 of them have to be ground down to clear lower edge of
guage mount hole, inside A-pillar

But I think it is going to be a bit wobbly, so I might cut a piece of pipe insulation and put it
between round edge of mount, right in front of "guage" hole, and TOUCH screen.
