Smarty to rent for trial? Milwaukee / West Bend WI area

I have a 2004.5 and a friend at work has a 2007 5.9 truck. I recently purhcased a quadzilla mileage max box and since I do not drive my vehicle daily, I had my co-worker (who does drive daily) perform an analysis on the mileage improvement. After several tanks he stated the increase on his truck is around .5 mpg.

I am very interested in a SMARTY JR but would like to know what if any the mileage improvement is. My co-worker is going out west this weekend for bird hunt (I thought WI had plenty of birds, guess not) and I was hoping to set him up with a SMARTY JR to test the MPG increase. The thought was to run out west either with it or with out, then vice versus on the way home.

Is anyone willing to let me borrow their smarty JR for the week? I will provide the lender with cash, I know many are probably already thinking SCAM.

I know i should have jumped on this sooner, just been a busy week at work.

If anyone in the area is willing to help me out, send me a private message or my cell is 262-719-4047.

Again, I will give the lender GREEN in order to settle any fears of me disappearing.

Thanks

Scott

I'm not in your area but have done a ton mileage comparos with dif. boxes. The jr on the old program 503d on sw#2 and a light foot gave me a net diff of 1.3mpg. I have not done one on the revo although I have it cause I just got it on tues. That is hand calc by the way. The beta low smoke 4.7 on sw#1 netted me almost a full 1mpg. The first software i mentioned has been revised and the sw#2 on it is now a 70 ish hp setting instead of 100ish. My truck has never felt as strong and efficient as it has with this new revo sw#2. I hope it has good mpgs cause if it does its perfect for my truck with a stock tranny and lift... no slips...my $0.02. Oh yeah. the Sr. on my 05' well broken in with 35's got the best mileage on sw#5 with a light foot

Smarty JR to rent

I figured Bob would stand behind the product but I ran out of time, I should ordered it weeks ago. Since I co worker is doing all highway and will be using several tanks of fuel, this trip out west would have been interesting to see his findings.

Regarding the Smarty lingo, I am clue less when people say Beta. I understand the SW#'s are settings but in XXLTEXAN post, I do not know if he is talking about Smarty JR or the EVO Smarty Senior.

Any help in understanding would be appreciated.

XXL was talking about the Jr. I think the mention of the Sr. in his last sentence was his best mileage to date.
The Beta software was an update for the jr. to reduce smoke.
The Revo is the newest Jr. update that allows seperate adjustments to timing and torque management levels in addition to the 3 SW#.

Hey bro, no worries, this is a confusing topic.

Any thing referred to as beta is a program or product that is being tested for a reduced price or free by people that have prior experiences using the same or similar software or products. These people that "beta test" are in contact with the manufacturers (usually) and report glitches, concerns, improvement ideas or kudos to the company(s). The term comes from the software industry. Beta (meaning second) being the simi-refined version of an alpha or "first" version ready for beta testing.

Some of the beta testers end up liking the beta version better than the one that goes to market for whatever reason and they hold onto the programs.

The smarty Jr. is a great product and was made for the milder crowd usually without gauges that wanted more power and low egts without as much worry breaking stuff

The smarty jr. cam with 3 SW programs initially. Some early adopters were concerned with the amount of smoke they made so Bob and Marco made a "beta" low smoke program for everybody to try. It works great. Some people liked the 503d program that came with it originally better and stayed or went back to it.

Whenever it warms up in the spring peoples trucks smoke more and they smoke really hard in the summers at least in Texas where I live. You will see threads popping up all over the diesel enthusiast sites like this one about this issue.

Also a few months ago somebody noticed with their butt dyno that on the Jr. sw#2 and sw#3 felt the same. After much debate they were dyno'd and in fact they were very close.

Bob and Marco fixed the problem in the latest offering of jr. software called Revo. The middle tow setting (sw#2) went from a 100hpish program back to the desired 70hpish and is much more adjustable to boot.

The Smarty Sr. has also beta tested software for a while and guys have certain preferences so they use what they like. on 03-04 trucks that have been heavily modified, beta 4.2 seems to be the favorite. On that program, guys have found that most 03-04 trucks make more power on SW#7 than SW#9. I know that is counter intuitive and thats why this forum is so great.

Different year trucks with different mods like different programs with different settings.

My advice is look at signatures and find people with same motor and similar supporting mods or stock if you are stock and start asking questions. Bob is a great resource. Both Smarty products are great and most everybody here is very helpful.

Head spinning yet? I hope that helps but if not I got some good tying practice...maybe I could be a court reporter

THanks

Thanks for your help and information post.

I will check into the smarty Jr Revo. The co-worker left for out west this past Sat. but since he drives every day to work, he tends to go thru the fuel pretty quick and his route is very consistent so he is a good guiney pig.

Thanks again.
