Well, I couldn't take it any longer, so I just bought a SMARTY!
Does anyone know the highest setting I can safely use on a 2003 SO 5-speed with only having a modified air intake and open 4" exhaust?

Level 5 is recommended due to the stock clutch. I tried level 7 and the clutch held up fine, but I didn't like the super sensitive throttle, so I'm running on 5.
Might also think about installing a boost elbow. Doing so will get the boost up into the 30 psi range. Will help lower the EGTs.

So each level has the option of timing or no timing. Which do you chose with an otherwise stock truck? And where do get a boost elbow??

Run with timing. The none timing levels are for people running stacked boxes that may also do timing.

I got my adjustable boost elbow off of ebay, for around $20.

+1 For level #5, I didn't do the boost elbow and still saw 32psi w/ stock turbo.

I am running 7 on mine, I have a little surge at 55-60 when not in OD. But it goes away when on #5. I want to move up to #9 but not till new turbo.

Is that surge your stock wastegate opening? Mine did that w/ stock turbo at 26-27psi(but I have an 03) on levels above 5.
