Slicks on a Dually

Anybody done this? I am losing traction and was wondering if anyone has put a super single set of slicks on a dually and where I could find them? Just contemplating the idea so let me hear your opinions.

Yeah, hard thing is finding a rim wide enough for even the narrowest slick. as most Dually run 17" wheels or 16" and the smallest slicks for a 16" wheel are like 15"-16" wide (made for Top Fuel cars 34" tall by 16" wide for a 16" diameter wheel. So, that leaves you with a couple options:

1)Custom wheels.
2)Have your axles re drilled for a 5 lug bolt battern (instead of the 8 lug)

You maybe familiar with "Snow White" David Lott's 7.3 PSD over at Diesel Innovations? The first pair of slicks he ran were my slicks, a 31-10.5W on a 15" wheel. I helped him set up running slicks on his truck (albeit a small part, but none the less I helped with tire height, gear ratio, etc....) Anyways, after he had a Ford 9" built, first time to the track, broke it, had another one built broke it, after numerous breaks, he finally had a Dana 80 built and had the axles drilled for a 5 lug bolt pattern. And that is what is in his truck today that has been close to the 10's in the 1/4.

Getting custom wheels would be pretty easy as you would only need rears. A lot of places could make you a set as wide as you needed.

Why would custom wheels be needed?

15x10 8 lug wheel would fit a dually rear.

The brakes are way inside to clear the stock offset dually wheel.

Well, I would think that you would want AT LEAST a 18" wide tire in the rear (like the super singles I was going to run) and that would require at least a 14" wide tire.

There was a post on here back in December about wide tires being used to replace the dual rear and also replace the daul setups on 18 wheelers (both tractor and trailer). I cannot recall the website but I did take a look and while up in New Jersey saw several big rigs with the single wide tire setup.

18" is the width of a super single tire for our 22.5s. I don't know if anyone makes a slick like that.

Many manufacturers make 15" 8 lug wheels. You are just stuck with steel.

4 Wheel Parts is one source. That is where I got mine.

I figured 15" would work fine since who would run slicks daily.

You could get a 15x14 black rock crawler wheel and run M/T 33x17-15's or even bigger 34's or 36's!
