Silencer ring, Remove it or leave it?

Ive seen people talk about removing the silencer ring. What good does it do to do this and how?

Just Makes the turbo whistle louder. There is a snap ring Similar to what you'd use on you joints and it holds in a ring around the inducer of the turbo. The snap ring can be removed with needle nose pliers and a small tip flat head screwdriver

take that little bugger out! it only takes a few minutes and makes the turbo sound pretty cool

Is the inducer the intake or exhaust side. Im new at the turbo thing. maybe someone has a pic??

maybe you could use the search function and read one of the three hundred other threads on this topic??

yes the search function can be your friend, just type silencer ring and you will have 73 threads pop up, every question you can think of about them is in those threads lol. I did the search 3 months ago when i got mine

it's on the intake side. Just start removing your intake box and tube and you'll see it tucked just inside the metal housing of the turbo.

Yeah I got a little frustrated because it wasnt near as easy as everybody told me(3 other guys tried who had done their own to). Next thing you know it's just mangled and torn out[laugh] I'm just to used to working on my wheeling truck where I don't care if I beat the he!! out of it.

get an old pocket knife and a pair of needle nose and that won't happen. Mine is still "MINT" as people say. FYI, HTT or someone sell's them for like $100 bucks so, keep it mint, someone may want that junk one day.

I took mine out yesterday and didn't notice a difference in turbo sound. I also deleted my cat and muffler last week so that could have something to do with it...

HotRodK Sep 13, 2008 01:57 PM

I took mine out of the '06 and the '04. Both were a PITA as the snap ring was oriented at 10 o' clock. I coudnt see what I was doing.[verymad]

Anyways, if you have a boring afternoon and want to tinker with something, go ahead and remove it. If your really looking for a tangable improvement, your not going to see it. The whistle is just slightly louder.
